Random call from police claiming im harassing a neighbor i havent seen in months

I called back 101 who said it may of been a prank but this woman didnt have my number ever.
So i got a call from this obnoxious “police officer” saying there have been allegations of harrassment against me from my old neighbor.
I said how have i been harrassing her, i havent seen her in months since i moved out and he wouldnt talk about it on the phone and said I have to come in, “he is giving me a chance to come in rather than come arrest me”
I told him i havent seen her in months, dont have any communication with her and to basically fuk off about come in, i told him to come arrest me.

The thing is and the reason why im so wound up is because this woman racially harrassed me for months to the point i had to move out and the police didnt do shit and now randomly i get this call saying im harrassing her when ive had NO communication with her?

when i called 101 even they were like well what does he want to talk about and i said he wouldnt say just kept asking me to come in.

i filed a complaint regarding it
he doesnt know my address either but if they do come here what can i do?

fucking hell i dont need this stress, i cannot believe this woman is still obesessed with me, i moved out in january

WTF does “calling 101” mean?

Well - in the UK 101 is the police non-emergency number. I don’t know for sure - but I’m guessing the OP is in the UK.

101 is non emergency police number
i thought this forum was a uk forum

I am not your lawyer (and what I have to say is based on my understanding of US law)…

If the cops come to your house to arrest you, ask to see the arrest warrant, which would be written authorization from a judge to arrest you (based on a showing of probable cause). Unless a cop actually witnesses you commit a crime, they have no authority to just show up and take you to jail.

If they have such a warrant, you should cooperate; however, the only thing you should tell them (besides identifying your self) is “I want to speak with a lawyer”. If that doesn’t work, ask for a piece of paper, and write down “I want to speak with a lawyer”. Don’t defend yourself, don’t explain, don’t make accusations or threats.

Having said all of that, it does sound like a harassing prank to me. Did you get the officer’s name?

no i didnt get his name, i was so confused with it all tbh it was random and he was really obnoxious and rude just winding me up. It could of been a prank but why would they ask me to come into a certain police station

To waste your time. If it was an “official” call, you’d know.

This is not correct, though how incorrect it is varies with the circumstances and the type of crime suspected. However, the police generally can’t arrest you at home without a warrant.

Can they get a warrant with no proof?
they dont know where i live but im with the same landlord so maybe they can find out that way?
im so pissed though wtf seriously

Wait. The police called you on your phone? Is that even a thing?

Under US law (and likely under English/Welsh law), they can get a warrant based on allegations made by your neighbour, but it’s unlikely they would. Police usually don’t arrest people for that sort of crime unless they pose a flight risk.

Plenty of us Brits here. Impersonating a police officer is a serious offence. Write to the police detailing the harassment you’ve received (with times and dates), culminating with this call - give the exact time and date if possible - and give them permission to look at your phone records for that day (check with BT or whoever if additional authorisation will be required). They should then be able to trace the call and prosecute.

the only reason they have my number is because this woman racially abused/harrassed me for months and they got it that way. now they are calling me saying im harrassing her wtf

Reported for forum change.

As noted above. It just doesn’t sound like the way the real police would ever work. It is by far most likely that this call does not come from a real police officer. Hence the advice Quartz gives about actually taking this incident to the police.

As to the motives behind the call, that is another matter. But you might be able to make some obvious guesses.

How do you know the police are calling you? I hope it’s more than just because they say they are the police.

he said hello is this kimberly, i said yes and he said its “blah police station” we need to talk to you regarding allegations of harrassment from your old neighbor.
That when i started saying i havent seen her in months, how have i harrassed her, i havent been in the area ect
and he said “you know what its about”
he would not even say what and then i started shouting telling him to come arrest me and is this a joke
and he got obnoxious sayig its No joke and i know what it is about
then he said are you going to come in or am i going to have to arrest you
i said NO
then hung up the phone

i did call back the actual police asking to speak to the sergeant of that station he claimed he was from and made a complaint, they said they will call me back within 24 hours so just waiting now

Ah, the phrase that unfailingly signals immaturity. If the real police really said that, you’re in SO much trouble!

Not you the poster, you the UK.

Bolding mine: this is classic wackjob behaviour. Not telling you what their problem is, just saying “YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID.”

I don’t think for a minute that this came from the actual police. I believe that someone is messing with you. And like a previous poster said, impersonating a police officer is a crime.

A few years ago I got a call from a woman asking me to stop calling and harassing her. I had no idea who she was or what she was talking about.

Turns out someone had stolen my identity, bought a cell phone using my name and was calling the woman with it.

So, there are many different explanations.
