Another borderline pair of lines was when Bad Bill threatened the turkey, “I’m going to slice your face off and use it to wipe my unmentionables” and one of his cronies told him to watch out for the beak.
A question. According to the credits, Depp did two voices: Rango and Lars. Rango is obvious but which character was Lars?
I can’t recall where specifically he was called Lars, but this Google page shows the beginning of various reviews where they all mention that he changed his name from Lars to Rango.
+1. I really liked it, would give it a 4/5 or a 9/10.
We saw it (24 and almost 22) last night at the late showing and there were a handful of young couples in the theater. I’ve become a fan of animation (other than anime) since Ratatouille. This definitely fit the bill. I was amazed it was given a PG rating; PG-13 would have been much more applicable but again, it didn’t have sex or nudity (well, aside from the mannequin) which often matter more to the rating people. Definitely not okay for those under age 8 or so, also like others have said it had a very Western element.
Bumping this thread, because I just saw it on DVD.
The plot was an obvious parody of Chinatown (in a spaghetti western setting) - the turtle/mayor wears the same hat as John Huston, and says at least one of the same lines (“The future, Mr Gittes/Rango…the future!”)
And once I realized that … did anyone else think that Beans (the female lead lizard) was drawn to look like Faye Dunaway?
And… “I once coughed up a whole tribe of pygmies. They was lookin’ at me funny” made my jaw drop open in bedazzled admiration.
