Rapunzel of TANGLED appreciated thread: Disney creates the ultimate CGI beauty.

Said the Hungarian who was looking for a McDonalds.

I meant it’s more “publicity-speak” rather than second language-speak.

Red Lobster.

To address this and anyone else who is wondering..no I am not a Disney plant or shill LOL

I’m just someone who finds RAPUNZEL a charming and refreshing “screen prescence” and figured I couldn’t be the only one so I wanted to spread the good word about this movie and it’s charming central character. The Straight Dope seemed like a good place to give the “straight dope” on this charmer.

No ulterior motives in this cynical world.

Over-invested…maybe but I see A LOT of movie (two per weekend ususually) and its been so long since a character like RAPUNZEL that is truly enjoyable (and easy on the eyes LOL) and a delight to watch has come along. Seeing as many movies as I do I was getting jaded but this character and all the escapism she brings was awake up call to remind me why I started liking movies in the first place. If that comes off as odd then I guess I’ll be odd.

My wife and I took our seven-year-old to see Tangled back when it opened. We all loved it. Best Disney movie in decades, hands down. I’m not ashamed to admit that I even cried. Twice.

Rapunzel is awfully cute, but you know who really steals the show in that movie? Her little chameleon sidekick Pascal. I adore him.

If you are a real person, would you be opposed to Rapunzel hentai?

Just for the record, I looked into this yesterday, and for a variety of reasons I don’t think MutaraNebula is spamming for the movie. I did remove a blog link from his OP, however.

I did enjoy Tangled quite a bit, but no way Rapunzel was more appealing than Belle.

Rapunzel is way more appealing than Belle. The story might not be as compelling, but the Rapunzel character is a major achievement. She has a physicality that previously Disney characters are lacking.

Also, Belle’s flat

No resonance, huh? Must be bad casting.

OMG.

Quoth Death of Rats:

What about The Princess and the Frog; wasn’t that Disney?

Yeah, but she wasn’t a “REAL” princess either. They just used the name for the call-back to the fairy tale, and to contrast “spolit little southern white princesses” with good plain hardworking real women.

I have to say, I found a lot of Princess and the Frog to be similar to Beauty and the Beast, actually.

Both have a pretty-but-strangely obsessive (Belle with reading, Tiana with cooking) working-class girl who ends up spending time with a prince who is in a form not of his own choosing, and the princes end up falling for the girls because they’re real and normal, not all fancified and princessy, while the girls learn that being rich and famous doesn’t always keep you from getting into unfortunate situations.

I have to say I like that better than ooey re-dos of perfectly good tragic fairy-tales like Little Mermaid.

I haven’t seen Tangled yet, but I was very impressed by how they translated the 2D Disney character style into CG so successfully. It’s like a regular 2D Disney film, only incidentally CGI 3D.

Tangled was Disney’s best film since The Emperor’s New Groove, and was #2 on my top 10 of 2010 list. I’ve only seen it once so far, but I loved every second of it.

…And the minute I got home from the theater, I hurried to rule34

I saw it yesterday, and this impressed me, too. The whole look of the film won me over completely. I really miss great hand-drawn animation, but this was the first movie I’ve seen that seems to be a genuine progression of Disney’s style rather than a new approach.

I saw a lot of the classic Disney animated features as a kid, but I’m only now catching up on the modern ('80s onwards) Disney output, so I’m not really emotionally invested in the modern classics everyone raves about. I definitely think Tangled beats-out The Princess and the Frog, but also Beauty and the Beast as well.

Some of the scenes were breathtaking, the mother/hag was wonderful and the whole film felt smart and fresh without being another Shrek (a franchise I’ve grown to loath). I’d certainly rate it much higher than Toy Story 3, which I thought was a bit too “been there, done that”, thematically.

More or less I agree with the Op. Tangled was a pretty damn good Disney flick, very charming, nicely done. I loved Maximus the horse.

And yes, the constant pop culture references in the Shrek series did get rather tiresome as it wore on. ( yes they were fun at first, I agree)

Now, anyone gonna call me a Disney shill?:stuck_out_tongue:

PS- Jessica Rabbit is the hottest Disney animated character ever.

Rapunzel > Belle > Aurora > Ariel > Jasmine > The duster from BATB > Jessica Rabbit.

Wasn’t there a hottest Disney princess poll on here about 6 months ago, before Rapunzel was in the running?

Question - did anyone see this film in 2D? I saw the 3D version, and I’m just wondering if it’s as breathtaking in 2D, since this had the “3D as a layer, no yo-yo’s allowed” take.

Agreed, Tangled was way better than Toy Story 3. But I can already tell you who the oscar is going to go to… =/
