Yup, I hate musicals, songs from musicals, Disney songs, and especially songs from disney musicals, but I might just download the I’ve Got a Dream song if it’s available as a single because that song was sweet. The rest of the songs, not so much. I would have made several return trips to watch it in the theatre “if it weren’t for all that fruity singing”, to quote Homer.
“Your dream is dumb. Shut it - I wanna hear hers.” (paraphrased.)
I think my favorite part was arguing with my husband about whether or not having all of her hair braided up would make it short enough to not drag the ground, and the ensuing argument about whether or not the weight of it would break her neck.
We may not be the exact target audience for sweet Disney movies…
Flynn and Rapunzel’s part of the song near the end are the best part of that song!
MOTHER KNOWS BEST is also an excellent track. (Not the reprise so much).
If that’s the case, then why are all 9 of your posts to this board about Tangled? I loved the film as much as the next guy, but I’m not going to go around the internetz and do free advertising for it.
BTW, I picked up the Bluray and gave it a second watch earlier this week. Holds up just as well the second time (and is just as good in 2D). Shame on the Academy for not even NOMINATING it for best Animated film!!!
You know, I thought the very same thing. Why was the “mother” selfish for wanting to keep the flower to herself? Why should she give up her life in order to save the Queen’s life? Because she’s the Queen her life is more important?
Damn monarchists…
Because the queen did not know and could not have known that you could use it (apparently) infinitely many times by singing the right song.
She wasn’t being selfish; to her it was a one-time thing for one person. If they even had a hunch it could be used again, selfishness would have dictated they keep it for their own later use.
I don’t know that the movie implied the “mother” was wrong at the beginning either for not telling people about the flower. Am I forgetting something?
The opening narration said something like, “But the old woman was selfish and wanted it only for herself.”
She had one foot in the grave being that old…can we really consider her selfish for wanting to use the flower…to like..live?!
Can’t believe the DVD finally is here!
Yeah, that’s my point. No, the old woman isn’t a nice person, but she shouldn’t have been called selfish at the beginning.
The beginning is the one thing I don’t like about Tangled. There’s just SO MUCH exposition to set up the story: A drop of sunlight … created a magical flower … that was hidden away by an old woman … until it was used to save the queen … causing her to give birth to a magical baby … who the old woman kidnapped. It feels rushed and convoluted.
*Hercules *did a much better job of setting up a similar backstory.
Yes, no, maybe. She’s not selfish for using the flower, but she is selfish for hiding the flower so that she has exclusive use of it, given that there’s no reason to believe that there’s no reason to believe it can only be used to heal one person.
Now, if she knows for certain that if she reveals it to the world that people will come, take it, and boil it into royal soup, then her hiding it is understandable, but the usual act of a Good Person in these types of tales is to try and share, even if it does end up with the good thing being taken away.
