SCENARIO: The first fleet of colony ships enroute to Australia experience a terrible storm which knocks all of the crew and personnel unconscious. When they come to, they are relieved to see that the storm has gone, and the familiar sight of great city lights and sounds lies before them, although they are confused; didn’t they leave port weeks ago? And since when did Portsmouth build such tall buildings? But they don’t have much time to think about that as a multitude of yellow, green and white-skinned metal boats come rushing towards them and as the sound of the beating of great wings comes closer, bright lights bear down upon their vessels from strange metallic-looking birds in the sky.
Let’s say that there is actually a portal that permanently connects the old world to the current; but it does not emit anything significant; so it will take a while to find.
I’m not sure exactly what it means, but I think it means “Random Alternate Reality”. I could be wrong, though. I think it might have came from stardestroyer net, but I’m not too sure. I think they use it sometimes for ISOTs or alternate realities, though.
Well, in almost all of the posts that I’ve seen it used as a title, they’ve all had some sort of fictitious event happening or alternate history or time traveling, and this post has all of that, so I used it here.
I’m not sure exactly where it came from or it’s history, but I have a pretty good idea that it’s a acronym for alternate reality scenarios.
People use acronyms they don’t fully understand all the time, I think. I also saw lots of posts on this board that linked to SD net, so I thought most people would have seen that acronym before.
Anyway, sorry for the confusion, it means “Random Alternate Reality”, or something very similar.
While the meme of Australia having extremely dangerous wildlife is nonsense, there are still some dangerous animals and plants in Australia, so “all” of them being non-poisonous is still wrong. Anyway, they have been transported to Australia as of AD 2020.
I think the metallic-looking birds would eat the colonists and that’s where the story would end. I don’t believe they would find the portal because it is not emitting anything significant.
Also, in the interest of accuracy, almost none of Australia’s wildlife is poisonous. You can eat almost any animal or insect found on the continent with no ill effect.
What they are is venomous, so their bites can be deadly.
The metallic birds are just Coast Guard helicopters, so they won’t eat the boats. The portal is visible to the naked eye but does not emit any heat or noise or vibration, so it will be difficult to find. It also makes living things unconscious until they pass through it, but electronics and radios will stay alert.
There are poisonous plants in Australia, and some animals might carry diseases.
I disagree. I think that this scenario is taking place in the future, where birds have evolved to resemble human aircraft, and that these birds are mimicking Coast Guard helicopters in order to feed on stricken mariners.
But the colonists have no idea what a modern helicopter even is, so to them it make actually be a highly-evolved bird which makes far more noise than a real bird.
They are immediately rounded up and sent to Nauru or Manus Island as they have come to Australia by boat.
As in your hypo they are still in the harbour and not on land, they are placed in offshore detention to be processed. Cries that they are prisoners that have been sent from their homeland are denounced by Peter Dutton’s Liberal government (this is 2020, right?) as something people smugglers told them to say. Clearly, they are not refugees, being sent from their homelands in exile, but merely economic migrants. They point to the numerous statements made over the years that if you come by boat, that no way, you will not make Australia home.
Refugee charities will point to their insistence they are from 1787 and George III is still king as a delusion caused by ill treatment in detention centres. The former Prince Charles’ regnal name is George after all, just not George III.
IF they are adults and eventually repatriated to England (confused, traumatised, and underweight), they will never again be allowed to enter Australia.
On Manus and Nauru, very little will be heard from them as there are severe penalties for people who speak to the press about their treatment. Some may die from septic wounds, and some may sew their lips shut in protest. So far as the Australian public is concerned they will be forgotten, much like Mr. Christian was after he put Bligh to see in his little boat that MacDonald would mock him about in later years.
Given past threads by the OP, I assumed this was the noise made by the monster waiting on the shore to eat the mariners. This would most likely be a mutated super-size, super-intelligent salt water crocodile. It was responsible for creating the portal that lured the sailors in.
It’s also possible that it refers to RAR compression, which would be necessary to transport matter through the portal.
