rate the disney villians

Well, my kids have hijacked the TV again - right now with A Bugs Life, but it could be any Disney movie.

So what better time to start a thread on the worst/best/meanest Disney villian?

My favorites:

Ursula. Poor, unfortunate souls!
Gaston. Every last inch of him’s covered with hair!
Shere Khan. Bravo, bravo!

My vote goes to the chain-smoking, fur-loving, politically incorrect and surprisingly sexy Cruella De Vil, star of the original, animated 101 Dalmatians movie.

She even had her own theme song:

They don’t make villains like that anymore.

worst= the leader guy from Atlantis
best= scar (lion king)
meanest= cruella deville (101 dalmations)

that witch from sleeping beauty was pretty scary as a kid.

From The Rescuers, Madame Medusa.

She’s essentially Cruella DuVille, but scarrier because unlike Cruella she’s bat-shit crazy.

I think Scar was a loser. He thought he was a lot more of a bad-ass than he actually was. “Ooh, look at me, I’m mean and sneaky! Ooh!”

Ursula looks a bit like my grandmother. Except, of course, my grandmother’s skin isn’t purple, and she has legs instead of tentacles.

Cruel DeVil was wicked. In the slang meaning, too.

Fuck Cruella deVille. I’m tired of Disney touting her as their best villian. All she did was try to make a God damn fur coat out of some fucking puppies. She’s not evil, she’s just a bitch.

(While I’m at it, why the Hell did she need 99 puppies? Couldn’t she have gotten like 10 adult dogs?)

My money goes on Meleficent (sp?) from Sleeping Beauty. She looked cool, had a great voice, lived in a spooky castle, actually had a plan that was evil, and turned into a huge dragon.

Just my $0.02.

I’m with Spanky. (That should be a t-shirt. Or maybe a band name!) Cruella ain’t so much.

Shere Khan was a great villain.

But I think my personal favorite would have to be Hades in “Hercules”. (Voice by James Woods—gotta love him!)

I vote for Shan Yu, the big baddie from Mulan. Intimidating as hell, has that terrific oozing grace that all good villians have, and practically unkillable (he had an entire mountain dropped on him and still survived! )

Sure, he didn’t have a lot of screen time, but that’s besides the point.

I, too, am with Spanky. Nobody out-evils Maleficent. It’s the coolness that does it I think. Also, put in a vote for Jafar. He’s also cool.

Not all of this posted so I’m trying again.

I’d say the best was Judge Frollo from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame.

First of all, his voice was done by the same guy who did Megabyte on ReBoot. That’s just cool in and of itself.

Second, he is responsible for what I think it the single most violent scene in any Disney movie (and for Disney movies, that’s saying a lot). He killed Quasimodo’s mother by tearing her baby from her arms and dashing her brains on the steps of a cathedral, and then tried to throw the baby into a well. When he was stopped, he rasied the child in isolated captivity for 20 years, every day reminding the boy just how ugly and disliked the world thought him.

That’s pretty sick right there.

Then of course, The Horned King from The Black Cauldron. That whole Cauldron-Born army is pretty sick and creepy.

For some reason, it won’t post all of my post. So what I was trying to say is that I think Maleficent is the evilest of all the villans and that it’s mostly the coolness that does it. And I also vote for Jafar as second-baddie.

And I’m going to stop pressing my luck with this here triumverate of posts.

Malificient from Sleeping Beauty, which I just watched with my daughter for the 1,234 time in three days. Evil, magical, and sort of sexy in a wraith like way.

Best: Meleficient

Honorable Mention:
Shere Khan
Jafar
Ursula
Shan Yu

Gaston wasn’t that great a villain, but that voice…
and the Siamese Cats made quite an impression in their minute and a half of screen time.

I’ve always had a soft, evil spot for the Queen in Snow White. And I LOVE Ursula, but I must also give props to Flotsam and Jetsam, as truly worth henchmen (henchfish, whatever).

For sheer incessant psychological abuse, I call on Cinderella’s stepmother. A totally non-magical witch, she is.

I too vote for Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Spoilers Ahead for Who Framed Roger Rabbit?..
Are we just counting cartoon movies? Because, although at the end he’s a cartoon, I would give a vote for Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd). That creepy high voice when we find out he’s a cartoon is just creepy. Plus, he didn’t just stop at cartoons. He killed humans too. Man, I thought he was never going to die.

Plus, he looked a lot like Peter “Grand Moff Tarkin” Cushing, which is also very spiffy.

(And how many other Disney villains have songs about being crazed with lust? :D)

But yeah, when I was a kid Judge Doom freaked me out too. Ursula is pretty cool, and Cruella has been getting good press lately because Glenn Close played her in the live-action version, and Glenn Close rocks.

Judge Doom definitely wins, if he can be included in the rules, since it was Touchstone and not really Disney. From the second his “true self” gets revealed until he gets run over, that’s nightmarishly creepy.

Clayton from Tarzan wins best death in any Disney movie ever, IMO.

Maleficent is always good, Shan Yu didn’t get much screentime and went out like a chump, Ursula’s too Broadway-style, and I’ve seen too many real life women like Cruella deVil (minus the hair) to be creeped out by her.

I’d pick Captain Hook for most character, Chernabog for overall scariness, Randall Boggs from Monsters, Inc. for special effects, and Maleficent for overall coolness.
