That running back situation seems a little thin to me.

I was a bit hesitant with SJax but I think the Rams will be better this year and if he can stay healthy I think he still has production left. As for TE, I thought Miller was too good a value to pass up at that spot. TE is a set position so if Davis gets hurt I have a decent backup.

12 team league, 0.5 PPR, 2 RB, 3 WR, no flex.

I had the fourth pick. I’m omitting the last two rounds, which are defense/kicker.

  1. Jamaal Charles (RB)
  2. Larry Fitzgerald (WR)
  3. Vincent Jackson (WR)
  4. Felix Jones (RB)
  5. Mark Ingram (RB)
  6. Ben Roethlisberger (QB)
  7. Brandon Marshall (WR)
  8. Matt Stafford (QB)
  9. Danny Amendola (WR)
  10. Rashad Jennings (RB)
  11. Jared Cook (TE)
  12. Denarius Moore (WR)
  13. Rob Gronkowski (TE)
  14. Javon Ringer (RB)

Thoughts?

Anyone?

Really damn impressive, I really like this team. That’s generally a pretty good indication that you won’t stand a chance at all.

Charles, I personally am not a fan of, but he just keep producing and doesn’t have the question marks that many guys at the top do (although TD’s may be rarer than a lot of them). I think Kolb adds enough value to Fitzy to make him a top 5 WR, and Rivers/Jackson have a good connection, so you have two studly WR startyers. I love what you did in the 6th through 9th rounds, getting one third tier QB in Rothlisberger and a QB with huge upside in Stafford. It covers you very well for not drafting an elite QB (although Ben might make a jump this year). I really like Brandon Marshall to bounce back big this year, hell Henne would throw to him every damn play if he could (that’s how Cutler got his money). Add in Amendola, who isn’t as useful as in a 1 pt. ppr league, but still gets the catches. Then you add in a couple late round fliers (I like Moore, but Campbell his QB does nothing for me) and Ringer (who probably won’t start, but can easily be dropped if CJ2K signs).

The biggest issue I have with the team is the #2 RB. Felix Jones is a reach in the 4th round, there should have been a better option. But he’s got some nice upside, if he can stay healthy. You might want to get DeMarco Murray though. And Ingram has the Heisman and name recognition, but I think you reached for him too. The Saints signed Pierre Thomas to a 4 year contract recently and they signed Darren Sproles, both of which indicate, to me, that Ingram won’t be the only guy carrying the ball in NO. I don’t expect him to have #2 (or even #3) RB numbers this year. I can see the desire to try and get two young RB’s with upside and hope that one of them pans out, but it is worrisome nonetheless.

Still, overall, I really like your team. Can I have it?

I had a 12-team snake draft where I drafted 7th.

RB Maurice Jones-Drew
RB Peyton Hillis
QB Matt Ryan
WR Percy Harvin
QB Sam Bradford
WR Anquan Boldin
DEF Steelers
TE Zach Miller
RB Brandon Jacobs
WR Malcolm Floyd
DEF Eagles
K Stephen Gostkowski
TE Todd Heap (D’oh! Both TE’s have the same bye!)
WR Hines Ward

Thanks, Hamlet! That’s comprehensive and extremely helpful. (But I won’t give you my team. :)) I agree that I need to cross my fingers about my RB situation. And yeah, I couldn’t believe Marshall fell that far. I also really wanted Jimmy Graham, but he got sniped the pick before mine.

You know how I raved about Gadarene’s team? Print out those nice things I’ve written, take that piece of paper, and burn it, because I don’t like your team at all.

Drafting 7th this year sucks rocks, because you’re stuck taking a guy you’re not going to like, or reach for a guy you do. MJD isn’t a bad pick by any means there, but he’s coming off a knee injury, so beware. Hillis with the 17th pick is a big mistake, at least to me. He went from backup to bellcow in one year, which has all the makings, again to me, of a guy who is going to regress this year. And taking Hillis cost you a stud WR, which this team needs very, very badly.

After reaching for Hillis, you calmed down a bit and … reached for Matt Ryan. I like Matt Ryan, I think he’s a fine NFL QB, and can be a lower tier starter for fantasy purposes, but he has a 6th round ADP (average draft position), and grabbing him in the third round is way too early when there are other QB’s in the same tier as him.

So, everybody reaches in a fantasy football draft once in a while. All is forgiven. So with your next pick in the fourth round you … reach again. Harvin has a 7th round ADP, and you took him, as your #1 WR, in the fourth round. Add in that you’ll be pulling your hair every week when he is “a game time decision”, and it was bad.

I know you’re sensing a trend here. Bradford’s ADP - 12th round. I hate taking defenses early, and you took two stud ones even with glaring holes at the WR position and despite the fact you have only 3 running backs.

I will be shocked if this team finishes in the top 6 teams in the league (barring wonderful waiver wire transactions). There is hope (I like the Bradford/McDaniels thing, Malcom Floyd has some upside, and you’re in great shape at the defense and kicker positions), but I can’t say I like this team. I can say I hate it though.

I agree with all of this, but I think Jones-Drew will end up being a fine back. I really like Percy Harvin, too. I think he’s going to have a very good year, but drop one of those tight ends. Hell, drop one of the defenses or use it to spring a trade for a receiver.

This also might be the first time in which I can safely advocate for carrying three quarterbacks. There are so many injuries, but I don’t think we’re quite at the level of drafting handcuff quarterbacks yet (Kerry Collins notwithstanding).

I needed a QB, and Rodgers, Brady, Rivers, Vick, Brees, and P. Manning were all gone.

I don’t hate this draft. I don’t love it, but my draft position was awful. I reached for defense because the Steelers’ estimated total was higher than any WR or RB left on the board at that point.

Eh, I’m used to finishing in the middle of the pack.

And Ryan, Romo, Rothlisberger, Schaub, and maybe Stafford, Flacco, E. Manning, and Freeman were all available. The one place I hate being is the first guy to draft somebody in a big tier. Grabbing Ryan, when there were 7 other QB’s roughly rated the same who could be had much later, is just a bad policy.

One piece of advice I myself received that helped me a ton was to ignore “estimated totals” and focus on value. What is important ISN’T the total number of points your pick can score, but rather the difference between the number of points your pick can score and the number of points the next best, or the 5th next best, option can score. As one person correctly described it: “The value of a player is determined not by the number of points he scores, but by how much he outscores his peers at his particular position.” It’s an entire strategy of value based drafting that has helped me a ton in my leagues.

If you’re interested, check out some information on value based drafting. It might help you get out of the middle of the pack.

This is for my league, 2QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, TE, W/R/T, K, Def, non-standard scoring–details in the league thread. Ten teams. Snake draft, I had the first overall pick, then 20 & 21, etc.

  1. Drew Brees, QB
  2. Matt Schaub, QB
  3. Michael Turner, RB
  4. Mark Ingram, RB
  5. Brandon Marshall, WR
  6. Wes Welker, WR
  7. Matt Sanchez, QB
  8. Percy Harvin, WR
  9. Jimmy Graham, TE
  10. Pierre Garcon, WR
  11. Brandon James, RB
  12. Hines Ward, WR
  13. Matt Hasselback, QB
  14. Visanthe Shiancoe, TE
  15. Saints DEF
  16. Neil Rackers, K
  17. Chargers DEF

This should be a QB intensive league, with some odd scoring quirks. I’m carrying 4 QBs because Brees and Schaub both have a bye in Week 11. For that matter, Week 11 is gonna be kinda scary, but I think I can field a full team, assuming I grab a kicker on waivers that week.

Need answer fast:

In one of my leagues, I have a keeper dilemma. It’s a very competitive league where the scoring system strongly favors running backs.

In essence, I have two strong WR keepers and one strong RB keeper already determined. I have one more keeper slot (we keep four total), and two choices for it:

Fred Jackson, RB, BUF

or

Dwayne Bowe, WR, KC

I have to make a choice by 5PM today and I have probably changed my mind twenty times. Anyone willing to give some advice?

Incidentally, these are the best 10 RB/WR who have not been kept and will be available in the draft (I pick 8th).

Frank Gore
DeAngelo Williams
Felix Jones
Benjarvus Green-Ellis
Mark Ingram
Greg Jennings
Larry Fitzgerald
Jeremy Maclin
Marques Colston
Brandon Lloyd

Plus whichever of the two guys (Bowe or F.Jackson) I decide to drop back into the pool. There’s a good chance the first seven picks will include Ingram, F.Jones, Jennings, Fitzgerald, Mike Vick, and Brady. Thus, when my pick comes around, Bowe/Jackson may or may not be available, but so will (probably) Gore, all of the lesser WRs above, and Peyton Manning and Phil Rivers.

I can see the dilemma. If you start only 2 WR’s, or if the other owners in your league are likely to load up on the RB too, Jackson should be the one, based on relative value. But if you have 3 WR or a flex option and/or the other owners are likely to keep 2 WR’s like you did, Bowe may be the one.

Dammit, I can see the conundrum. One thing I’m sure of is that whichever one you pick, the other will have a career year. In the end, with decisions like this, I generally would probably, maybe, kinda likely, go with the guy who has the best chance of being a stud. I kinda sorta, feasibly, conceivably, think that I could find an average player in the draft, so I want the guy who may just rise to the top 10 at his position. To me, that’s Dwayne Bowe over Fred Jackson. With Spiller leeching carries and an emphasis on the passing game, Jackson might max out at about 1000 and 8 td’s (maybe more because he’ll be the goal line back). But Bowe, in his fourth year after last year’s nice season and in a contract year, has the skills and opportunity to become a stud. I doubt he’ll get the number of TD’s he had last year (which was impressive), but he could get even more yards. Bowe has the better chance of being a stud than Jackson.

There. I’ve convinced myself that Jackson is the one, then that Bowe is the one. It is a really tough call. But, once again, I would rather have a guy who could be elite than one who is maxed out at very good. If you have other options at RB, or if your RB keeper is relatively solid, I’d go with Bowe. Or Jackson. Bowe. Jackson.

Bowe.

Hamlet - GET OUT MY HEAD!

Perhaps some additional detail is in order.

My other three keepers are Steven Jackson, Vincent Jackson, and Mike Williams (Tampa). The way our keeper rules work, this was the best I could do keeper-wise.

If I had to guess, the first eight picks (I actually pick NINTH, not eighth) will go like this:

  1. Frank Gore
  2. Mark Ingram
  3. Greg Jennings
  4. Larry Fitzgerald
  5. Michael Vick
  6. DeAngelo Williams
  7. Dwayne Bowe/Fred Jackson
  8. Tom Brady

So whoever I keep, my best choices when it comes time for my pick will be:

  1. Felix Jones
  2. Peyton Manning
  3. Phillip Rivers

It’s not a snake draft, so by the time I pick again, I almost definitely will not be able to get a starting running back, will have to choose among lower-tier quarterbacks, or go with a tight end or a WR2.

League requires one starting RB and two starting WR, plus two others (so in the end you can have 1-3 RB and 2-4 WR starting).

So if I keep Jackson, I would have 2 RB and 2 WR going into my pick and could complete the fivesome with someone like F.Jones. If I keep Bowe but drop Jackson into the pool, I’d wind up with S.Jackson and F.Jones, plus Bowe, V.Jackson, and M.Williams. Then I’d gamble on a QB, I guess. I don’t see myself taking a QB a 9 unless it’s Vick or Brady.

Hm. If I keep F.Jackson, then it’s definitely possible that Felix Jones might go in place of Bowe, meaning I could take Bowe at 9 and wind up with the three Jacksons, Williams, and Bowe (doesn’t sound great, but it got me to the championship last year). But it’s also possible that both Bowe and Felix Jones would go, leaving me with Brady and trying to find RB and WR sleepers in the second round.

Agh.

Bad draft. You reached on Brees and Schaub and ended up with no good running backs to pin your team on. Homerism reared its ugly head for this draft, for sure. I do like the Shiancoe pick. I think McNabb will use him effectively.

8 team draft, I went 5th. 3 WRs, 2 RBs, 1 flex

I don’t have the order I picked them written down, but:

QB
-Romo
-Flacco

RB
-Ray Rice
-Darren McFadden
-Steven Jackson
-Felix Jones
-Ryan Mathews

WR
-Andre Johnson
-Dez Bryant
-Brandon Lloyd
-Mario Manningham

K
-Sebastian Janikowski

TE
-Owen Daniels
-Mercedes Lewis

Def
-Patriots
-Dallas

I took Romo in the 4th I think, after a run on QBs. It was the wrong move since Matt Ryan and a few other QBs close in skill were still around and either Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald was still on the board. Other than that mistake I’m fairly happy. Well, other than the guy before me scooping me on Adrian Peterson, and Philip Rivers.

I’ll pick a kicker up off waivers for the Raiders bye week.

Mine. I’m not too comfortable about it, bu yahoo point lier likes it for week one which means I’m toast already. research time was limited this year.

1.Lesean Mccoy
2. Roddy White
3. Peyton Hillis
4. Wes Welker
5. Shaub
6. Knowshon Moreno
7. Sidney rice
8. Garcon
8. Packers D
9. Marcedes lewis.
10 Daniel Thomas.
11. Josh Freeman

I was pleased with round 1 and 2. but then things got weird and I scrambled at bit, going with published ratings over my gut for Hillis, then the total other way for Welker. We’ll see.

10 Team Draft and I had the second pick:

  1. Adrian Peterson, Min RB
  2. Drew Brees, NO QB
  3. Greg Jennings, GB WR
  4. DeAngelo Williams, Car RB
  5. Dez Bryant, Dal WR
  6. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, NE RB
  7. Wes Welker, NE WR
  8. Owen Daniels, Hou TE
  9. Jets D/ST D/ST
  10. Joe Flacco, Bal QB

  11. A.J. Green, Cin WR
  12. Brandon Jacobs, NYG RB
  13. Roy Williams, Chi WR
  14. James Jones, GB WR
  15. Lee Evans, Bal WR
  16. Billy Cundiff, Bal K

Pretty happy with this team even though I was not in love with the DeAngelo Williams pickup. I was pretty surprised that no one seemed interested in AJ Green in my league but I will not complain about getting him where I did.
