Re Edward Kennedy's death - Man... that's one rough editorial cartoon

Apparently he was not a Kennedy fan

I love it.

I’m guessing Mr. McCoy thought for at least 30 seconds before coming up with the Mary Jo Kopechne angle. Brilliant!

Eh, for this cartoonist, that’s nothing; he probably thought he was being gentle. This is the kind of thing he’s capable of when he wants to be mean.

I think it’s appropriate, given the family “mystique”, the wealth, the adulation, etc.

It’s about time we fell out of love with the Kennedy family, as they are no better or worse than any other uber-wealthy, politically-connected family.

They were like the royal family of America…which I don’t particularly care for.

RIP, though, Ted.

Who’s ‘we’? I’ve never been in love with the Kennedys and I think it’s poor taste all the same.

That cartoon hits the mark.

I have to say watching the video of his apology when he switches from camera 1 to camera 2 as he switches from his personal remorse for what happened to his much much much longer discussion of his legacy it makes me wish I were a filmmaker. That scene is just perfect and it says so much about the media savvy of the Kennedy family at a time when media savvy was not yet common. It was so obviously directed.

I just flipped through a few of that guy’s cartoons. I find his work … unappealing. But apparently he also writes The Duplex, which can be very funny.

Ok, maybe I’m a complete idiot. What’s offensive about Ted looking into the pearly gates and seeing his two dead brothers? What am I missing?

The OP was speaking of a cartoon that is now on another page. And yes I was baffled at first too.

I’ve edited the OP so the link goes to the August 28 cartoon instead of the newest one.

Looks to me like more of an indictment of the media for pretty much giving him a pass for Chappaquiddick.

Very good cartoon. I wish I wasn’t a nontheistic agnostic…it would be nice to think Mary Jo would finally get some justice. But I guess there is no justice, in or out of court.

The OP one actually made me wince a little. It’s still too early.

But THIS one, I like!

“Too early”? Gee, I’d hate to let something like negligent homicide get in the way of you respecting the man.

I can’t find the cartoon. All the links go to a donkey laying a wreath.

Shodan

Here is a direct link to the cartoon.

Did New Zealand singer Shona Laing’s old hit from 1987 Glad I’m Not a Kennedy get any airplay in the last week?

*Living on through politics
Body-guarded, heart in bits
A blue-eyed honesty
Indigo injury
The family tree is felled
Bereavement worn so well
Giving up on certainty
Wilderness society

Wearing the fame like a loaded gun
Tied up with a rosary
I’m glad I’m not a Kennedy*

It makes sense… I mean, with his death, the Camelot Legacy is more or less dead. I mean, Maria is still (indirectly) involved in politics, but for the most part, the dynasty is gone. I think Mary Jo’s headstone might have been a little much, but for this cartoonist, it’s probably not far enough for him.

Weird that it would say “a youthful indiscretion” on Mary Jo Kopechne’s tombstone. That’s the phrase Henry Hyde ® used to describe his extramarital affair when he was just a lad of 41.
