RE: Is there really a race of blue people?

In answer to a person claiming that Krishna’s blue colour can be explained by consuming a large amount of cyanide dumped in the rivers, Cecil says that "Another take on this I’ve heard is that blue is the standard depiction of all Hindu gods. " :dubious: Not really… blue is the standard depiction of all the human reincarnations of the Hindu god Vishnu, the preserver. Krishna is one of Vishnu’s reincarnations (‘avatars’). While the story explaining Krishna’s blue shade is indeed listed in Hindu mythology, Vishnu is blue to indicate “his all-pervasive nature, blue being the color of the infinite sky as well as the infinite ocean on which he resides”. Trust me… I’m Hindu :stuck_out_tongue:
Just my thoughts on the matter.

Cool! Thanks for the info, Riana! We have other Hindus on the boards–well, at least one, but she’s not a fully practicing Hindu. I hope you stick around. It’s great to have people with interesting beliefs and experiences. (And don’t worry–you won’t be treated as the Official Spokesperson for All Hindu People Everywhere. Unless, that is, you really want to be!)

BTW, here’s the link to Cecil’s column, Is there really a race of blue people?
