Regarding your column on people drinking non-potable alcohol: I once worked in an emergency room in New Mexico. As you may know, the Native American reservations in that state are “dry”. The indigenous population’s beverage of choice was called “ocean”–a concoction of water and liquid hair spray. They would routinely present to the E.R. with alcohol levels topping .40! What’s even more interesting is that they would sleep it off for 8 hours, get up, and walk right back out again.
