As a schmuck in the muck in Iruq (3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th ID) many a troop found that a good buzz could be held with the Listerine from the PX. I found this out when a mortar landed nearby after dark when I was finishing my personal dental ablutions.
Skanked down a jigger and half (measured later) of original flavor Thunderine and after staggering out of our little bunker (120 mm mortar nearby, please read “sarcophagus”), I had a definite buzz. Along with a dire need to toss the jambalaya MRE (Meal, Rarely Edible…Meal, Rejected by Ethiopians…three lies in one!..) onto the aluvial soil of LSA Anaconda.
Regrettably I told others of my experience, and my surmise is that beer goggles hit their eardrums just before I told them of the dire need to toss that MRE. Later that week, after a trip to the little PX, a LOT of folks were discreetly (or not…) wandering off to places remote to blow chunks.
Medicos decided we had a gastrointestinal cootie that, suprise, suprise!, didn’t cause a rectal need for Pepso Bismol. Spoke with them later and was suprised to know they knew all about my own experience from the other troopies. After speaking with the docs they all suddenly remembered my jambalaya quote. Good chuckle all 'round!
Hope you folks enjoy the foible(s) of our gals and guys liberating Iraq. And their fields of corpses, towns of NBC victims, voting, hopes and bombs. Got a friend or relative out there? Give 'em a note in the mail. E-mail is iffy if they can’t get it, but Snail Mail is something they can put into their Kevlars and enjoy by flashlight illumination.
G Bless you all and the ground-pounders noshing on the dust in the sandbox!
Hello A10warthog. Welcome to the boards.
It is usually considered a courtesy to link to the column you are on about: Listerine
Sorry, not terribly used to links’n’such. This is the first time I’ve done this! :smack:
No problem. Welcome to the boards. Always nice to hear a voice from overseas. Keep safe.
Funny story, BTW.
