I saw this moviethe other day. A little too busy for it’s own good, but not a bad movie overall, but the police detective character was horribly written, and terribly acted by Demi Moore. It’s like they were being written by two different people. Her character was this broad cartoon that would even have embarrassed a scriptwriter on Miami CSI, compared to the nuanced interaction between Costner and William Hurt.
I’ve never made much note of Demi Moore as an actress. Does she usually stink up the joint like this?
Honestly, I don’t think that’s far off. The movie is about Mr. Brooks and his possible exposure by Dane Cook and the realization that his daughter has the same murderous impulses he does. Having a detective also chase him seemed like an afterthought.
The director has said he has two sequels planned. So maybe we’ll learn more some day.
I think the movie would have been fine without her, but I can see why the studio would have wanted her in it. More intrigue, more immediate danger to Mr. Brooks…
