I don’t really recall the Cruise/Reacher fight scenes. As others have mentioned, tho the movies were fun, he physically just was not Reacher. The books always have pretty good descriptions of the streetfighting aspects - tho distorted by Reacher’s massiveness and superhuman strength. In fighting, speed generally results from economy of motion.
And from the books, I don’t quite remember Reacher as quite as bloodthirsty - saying things like, “We just have to kill a few more people.” I thought of him more as just matter-of-factly going about his business, with the bodies piling up almost incidentally.
Yeah, I thought that final ep way less satisfying than all that led up to it.
I had just read the book when the current series started. Lots of changes from the book, none of which made it better. The helicopter scene, in particular, was slightly more believable in the book
I think the scene with the stretcher might be the most extreme exaggeration of the one-armed hang I’ve seen.
I watched that and just shook my head.
Have you watched the new show Obliterated on Netflix? It’s a lightweight comedy action kind of thing, and one of the running jokes is that their Big Tough Guy spends the entire time damn near staving to death. He keeps ordering food any chance he gets, but also getting interrupted by action scenes just before he gets his food.
By the end of the adventure, he’s basically wiped out from lack of calories.
I despise netfucks.
I thought the finale was OK. Like season 1, it was a bit anticlimactic, but not as much so. Not a great wrap up, but satisfying.
I agree that stretcher helicopter scene was kind of pushing it, but… Reacher is, basically, a superhero.
I was a bit disappointed at Lavoy’s heel turn. I like the idea of a character who is corrupt and sleazy but not super-evil. More interesting than just another baddy.
“It won’t be forever- we just have to kill a few more people”.
Hmm, sounds like something I might like! And with Jason Mantzoukas and David Costabile, both of whom I tend to enjoy in most things. I’ve added it to my list. Thanks.
Based on the book Persuader.
Thanks!
Here I am, killing time at Goodwill while Kid Cheesesteak searches for “valuable” things to resell on eBay, and what book do I see on the shelf? 99 cents well spent, I think.
Heh. I’m listening to it right now, checked out from Libby. I was sure that I’ve read it already, but I certainly don’t remember any details.
Did you check their clothes selection in sizes XXXXXL?
In Season 2 did anyone else think the David Spade soundalike who played David O’Donnell was a traitor? I kept waiting for that reveal up until the end.
I just finished the first book and noticed this difference. In the book his motivation was to finish his brother’s work, but in Season 1 it was to kill his brother’s murderers.
I liked the ending to Season 1. It went through all of the tropes, but at least did it quickly.
Agree on the ending to Season 2. It was way too drawn out (helicopter showdown scene, arms dealer justice scene, helicopter shot down scene, obvious betrayal and backfire scene, diner scene, a bunch of scenes of people getting money, then they’re all drinking around a fire somewhere?, and motel scene, and bus scene. Too much epilogue for my tastes.
The first three episodes of season 3 dropped last night. I was not a huge fan of season 2, but after reading some of the early reviews I have hope for the new season.
New trailer:
I watched the first three eps yesterday: I liked them/I like this season’s setup. And, it’s always fun for this Gen X kid to see Anthony Michael Hall.
Watched the first three last night. Follows the book fairly closely. Enjoying most of the cast with the exception of the baby DEA agent.
