Reaching out for the Hispanic vote

And how do you think that’s going to go over with Trump supporters? Trump harms republicans because he highlights the total disconnect between the Republican base. They either agree with him to please the Trump voters and become unelectable or they repudiate everything he says and the morons take their ball and go home. There is just no way the eventual party stooge that wins the nomination is going to get enough support from both camps when they are so diametrically opposed.

Trump’s poll numbers, added to those of his fellow zealots in the field, tell you who the Republican base really is, don’t they? You refer to a disconnect between elements of the base, but at some size ratio you have to recognize that only one of those elements deserves the name. The Teahadists and nativists are not a faction, they are the party.

I’m guessing this was a mistake because the rows in the relevant table are not in an intuitive order, but what you are saying about Latinos grouped by age is false.

TOTAL DEMOCRAT	REPUBLICAN	OTHER/NA
Latino 18-to-29 year olds: 2%	68% 28% 4%
Latino 30-to-44 year olds: 2%	56% 42% 2%
Latino 45-to-64 year olds: 3%	62% 37% 1%
Latinos over 65 years old: 1%	64% 34% 2%

There’s a shocker!

Actually, for both African-Americans and Latinos, the 30-44 set are the most Republican.

I don’t want to get super nitpicky about this particular poll, but when you start slicing things that finely you lose statistical significance. Plus exit polls in general are not that great to begin with. So while you have a bit evidence supporting your statement, it falls short of being an established fact.

Being overly certain that a small portion of a group that is exit polled is representative of a larger population leads people to say things like, “Republicans will win the youth vote in 2014.”
