A friend gave me the novel “Wicked” and the OCR for the Broadway show based on it. If I listen to the CD before reading the book (thus learning something of the plot of the musical), will I be horribly spoilered for the book? Should I forego the CD until after I’m done with the novel?

I have not read the book, but I have seen the play and have the OCR in constant rotation on my CD player. My guess is that the OCR is not going to make much sense unless you know at least the basic outline, and probably a fair amount of detail. Here’s a decent synopsis of the play which might help, especially if it turns out that the plot of the play diverges significantly from the book.
The musical has some different plot points than the book and a different ending. You should be okay whichever order you choose.
