If you were able to build your own Argonath, who would you choose and where would you build it? Not sure what an Argonath is? Here you go: http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/default.htm?http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/a/argonath.html
For me, setting would influence who I would pick. If I built the Argonath in upstate NY, I’d choose American icons.
I thought this was going to be about some bizarre new MTV show.
Well, “American Icons” would make a good title for an MTV show…
I think we already have an American Argonath. It’s called Mount Rushmore.
Yeah, but those are four **heads/b]. Not two imposing figures guarding something.
Eisenhower and Macarthur.
Or Yuri Gagarin and Neil Armstrong.
I would say the Statue of liberty is really close. It stands at what was (once) the most popular point of entry for the country, is a gigantic statue and is a figure that represents our country.
On either side of the Golden Gate bridge would be the next most obvious point to build such things. Keeping with the theme of the Statue of Liberty, maybe we could have Equality and Fraternity.
In front of the main entrance to the newly approved stadium (to be built in Arlington) for the Dallas Cowboys: Tom Landry and Roger Staubach
Another good pairing would be Newton and Einstein, but I can’t think of the best location.
No suggestions for your icons, but might I suggest Taughannock Falls? The perfect size for the Argonath, if you ask me (even though it would be going the wrong way upstream.)
** Big Bird ** and ** Cthulu **
Ya know, just to screw with future archaeologists. q;}
Charles Darwin and Andrew Johnson.
I’m serious about the first one. Prizes for anyone who knows who the second is.
Is it President Andrew Johnson or the guy who’s a reiki master?
Ludovic those falls look perfect but in light of the suggestions and what’s going on in Georgia, I think we need some scientists guarding our universities/observatories!
When the commericial space industry takes off (an optimistic when here) then we could build them overlooking the commercial space port. Two of the greatest scientists guarding the entrance to the stars and all that.
Interestingly I think the launch site of Space Ship 1 was declared a spaceport by the FAA, but I would imagine their business model will have to develop a little before the can fund this do pretty it up with 100ft tall statues.
Also, I belive thiers a law against chisiling any new statues out of mountains and cliff faces, so you’d need to build the next Argonath up from the ground if your making it in the US
Adolph Hitler and George W. Bush. Same pose as in the movie. Not sure where to put 'em though…maybe at the heart of a paintball range?
