Yep, kiddie fuckers posting about how age of consent laws should be changed so that they can be sucked off by six year old girls is cool. Using profanity in a title…oh so bad!!
Ed, liked it better when you called yourself a weasel in your title.
I’ve said if before, and I’ll say one more time: All allowing annoying ads accomplishes is alienate potential customers. Remember, even someone who comes to the site and does nothing still counts if you have pay-to-show ads.
Then again, I’m going to continue to endorse using Adblock and Flashblock until Adobe tightens up their Flash security. Something so ubiquitous should not have such large security holes.
Does the administration have any control over the content or type of ads? I can imagine someone saying, “Okay, we’ll take ads for general products, but no hygiene, lawyer, or travel ads. And they must have no violence or foul language. Sound must be mutable.”

How so? The ads come in packages – it’s take 'em or leave 'em in toto, we can’t pick and choose what we want.
The brokers will remove individual ads that may contain malware – something that occurs very rarely though it’s happened in the recent past – but otherwise no, there’s nothing we can do about it.
There were several posts in that thread, including the last one so far, that asked why she wanted screenshots when she said nothing could be done. None of those posts were answered.
You stopped yourself. This is circular argument, and doesn’t answer the question. If there is nothing that can be done, did she want to look at them for the lulz value?
If people are asking about the ads, why wouldn’t she ask to see them? We usually prefer informed comment around here. It’s not always possible to click through the ads to find a particular one, so when people are reporting an ad or commenting on it, we ask people to send them to us.
What was disingenuous about the response? The SDMB staff doesn’t have control over ads. If we get a report of malware, we can kick that upstairs and get it dealt with. Maybe it’s more fun to believe we can turn the ads off whenever we want but don’t because of [whatever the reason is supposed to be].
And I was also in on the mod emails that followed that thread. At no time did anyone on the staff say anything could be done. Nobody proposed doing anything, and nobody even asked if we could do anything if we wanted to. And of course in the end, nothing was done about the ad.
