Really good really bad flicks

K-I-T-S-C-H.

You’re welcome.

I believe you mean “kitsch”, a German word meaning “trash” - applied to something of lowbrow taste - oil paintings on velvet, coffee mug in the shape of a butt, things like that. I haven’t seen “The Cook the Thief…etc.” but thought it was more of an out-there art house type thing?

Guy P:

Well, sometimes you do know. And Troma Films specializes in making movies that are calculatedly bad – some of which are better than others. Which sort of disqualifies TA for me (along with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Amazon Women on the Moon, as well as other Troma titles such as Cannibal! The Musical; Chopper Chicks in Zombietown; Class of Nuke 'Em High; Class of Nuke 'Em High Part II: Subhumanoid Meltdown; Class of Nuke 'Em High 3: The Good, the Bad and the Subhumanoid; Decampitated; Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters; Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell; Pterodactyl Woman from Beverly Hills; Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D.; Surf Nazis Must Die (my personal favorite); Teenage Catgirls in Heat, and of course all three Toxic Avenger titles: *The Toxic Avenger, Toxic Avenger, Part II, *and Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie.

Okay, some of you have mentioned some movies I really liked:

  1. Real Genius
  2. Spice World
  3. Overboard
  4. Cutthroat Island

Why do I like them? Because they are FUN! No one is taking themselves so seriously “I am an AC-TOR…” etc.

Here’s my nomination that I just saw this weekend and really thought was funny!

Mystery Men

My favorite line is when William H. Macy, Paul Reubens and Jeanene Garafolo go to see the mad scientist and Macy says, “Spread out! I’ll take the point, you guys take the flank. We’ll triangulate.” Paul REubens comes back with, “Iscosoles or equilateral?”.
Don’t ask me why - I just found that hilarious! …guess you had to be there!

enright, Yep. I was just gonna say that. Frankenhooker.

Was I the only one that saw Young Einstein? There was a great bit on The Simpsons having to do with the brief Aussie infatuation of the US. Lisa is looking at a photo of a movie marquee with “Yahoo Serious Film Festival” on it. “I know those words but that doesn’t make sense.”

Bunny: I LOVED that flick! My choice for best line also came from William H. Macy, as the heroes prepare to storm the villains’ lair:

“Okay, guys…we’ve got a blind date with Destiny…and it looks like she’s ordered the lobster.”

I actually enjoyed it as a nice quiche. With cheese.

Mystery Men! Loved it! I adore Paul Reubens! My favorite part was the auditions - “I’m PMS Girl, I only work 4 days a month, you got a problem with that?” I only wish the movie had been funnier, it had such possibilities, and it - just - missed. Still, the actors were great.

Has anybody ever seen Johnny Dangerously? How about the best movie of all time, The Blues Brothers? Those are my nominations

Stupid people surround themselves with smart people. Smart people surround themselves with smart people who disagree with them. - Isaac Jaffee

Wow, someone else saw that move? I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one! Do I remember correctly… when the ‘dr.’ wanted to get his creative juices flowing he would insert a drill into his own head for stimulation? There was something wierd like that. Not that the rest of the movie wasn’t wierd too.

Enright3

actually, I dont remember details but it was a classic.
Also I loved Dr, Detroit with dan Aykroyd

Ha ha Orangecakes : I too saw Dr.Detroit and found some weird joy in it.

Also I’m not sure if anyone else saw these:

Transylvannia 6-5000 (early Micheal Richards)

My Chauffeur (early no-one)

Solarbabies ( Jamie Gertz and…who the hell else was in this?)

Girls Just Want To Have Fun (Helen Hunt and Sarah Jessica Parker)

Two of A Kind (super bad with John travolta and Olivia Newton-John)

Staying Alive (super bad follow-up to Saturday Night Fever, watch for Sly, he has a cameo)

I’ll second (or third) the nominations of Amazon Women on the Moon and Rock ‘n’ Roll High School and add:

Beastmaster: I confess I haven’t seen this movie in ages, but at one time it aired on TBS approx. every other day, twice on Saturday, which coincided with the height of my love of everything sword and sorcery. Plus the ferrets were pretty dang cute.

Ice Pirates: I’m easily amused. I don’t know what else to say. Space herpes.

Pass the Ammo: Tim Curry as a televangelist who gets his comeuppance on national TV. Who wouldn’t like to see that??

Rock and Roll High School is not a bad movie. Its great! The Ramones are in it!
Love the shower scene!

He was in that?

And Shannen Doherty.

My vote goes to Satisfaction; Justine Bateman’s vehicle and Julia Roberts’ film debut.

Remember, I’m pulling for you; we’re all in this together.

Army of Darkness - I am compelled to watch whenever this one comes on. Also the only film since Gone With the Wind with a male protaganist named Ashley – and this one has a chainsaw for a hand, it doesn’t get any better. “Ash, housewares… kablam

All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people.

RILCHIAM - Yup, he was the weird guy who was always saying “No iss good, come you try, iss fun.”

The Day of the Triphids

Them

And Jane Fonda’s best ever, Barbarella.

Classic Sci-fi.

How come nobody mentions “Pink Flamingos”, directed by John Waters, starring Divine?

I’ve always thought if I ever wanted to divorce my wife, but didn’t know how to broach the subject, I would take her to this movie. That would be the end of our marriage.
