This actually does suggest to me that the creature you saw was in fact human;
it may have been a hoaxer, or a human living wild in the woods;
this last possibility is interesting in itself, but does fit in better with the lack of evidence for non-human hominids here or anywhere in the modern world.
Having said that, it is not good practice to tailor observations to fit preconceived ideas, so without more details, it is difficult to evaluate your sighting.

Well I think that an eyewitness observation means it’s worth investigating, but not proof.
Physical evidence is proof.
Numerous examples have shown that eyewitnesses can be honestly mistaken.
(In addition, if there is a breeding population of such animals, why haven’t we found any bodies?)
