Superman just fighting hundreds of robots would be cool.

At the beginning of the thread, I thought “Superman vs The Daleks”, but that’s a crossover. Sure he can kill them all. Eventually. But how many Humans will be left?
So although the Kryptonite thing gets old, as do many other plots, that’s something I’d like to see. A situation where Just One Superman cannot save the world (and he can’t pull multiple versions of himself out of his ass). A story with a resolution that doesn’t depend on Superman being the savior all on his own, and not involving other supers. A story where WE save ourselves and the moral of the story is that even Superman can’t save the world from every menace, every time, all on his own. That sometimes we’re going to need to save ourselves.

I didn’t like the last guy to play Superman. He was way to lean. Superman should at least look a little like a man of steal. I love Tom Welling as Superman. Even he should do a short course of steroids before taking up the role, but he’s pretty muscular as is.
Also, I really didn’t get how Superman was able to lift an entire island made of kryptonite. What is the point of having a vulnerablility to kryptonite when essentially, he can just push it out of the way anytime he likes.

The entire island wasn’t made of kryptonite; if it were, he’d have noticed long before landing, as he’d have lost power and crashed into the water if he were lucky, into the ground if he weren’t. The crystal tech reshaped the ocean floor into a greenish substance, but Superman lost his powers only when exposed to the piece shard of true kryptonite Luthor had in his pocket.

Someone above mentioned Parker Posey as a possible Lois, but I don’t think it would work; she had too big a part in the last movie. If we were going for someone from that movie, I’d rather see Nikita.

That story’s been done, actually, in the animatedseries. The last time we discussed this I suggested it as a possible better movie; I still think it would work, with a few changes as follows:
As I mentioned above, make it clear that Lois is the only Planet staff member who actually knows Superman (one thing the last movie got right); moreover, have them in a relationship which is hitting the skids because of Kal-El’s commitment phobia.
Have Orion come to Earth as in the animated series (i.e., after a battle with Darkseid’s minions), but against his father’s orders. Rather than meet Superman/Clark first thing, he’ll get captured by the military (something only his extensive injuries allow.) Jimmy Olsen should witness this event and befriend Orion.
Have the goverment call Superman in for a consult when their mysterious prisoner’s wounds start healing ultra-fast.
As in the animated series, have Orion & Superman battle Apokaliptan forces together; they shouldn’t get along at all, as Orion will think Superman a pansy and Superman will think Orion a brute. At the end of it, have Orion recalled to New Genesis, while Jimmy finds his lost Mother Box.
When Darkseid attacks, Superman quickly realizes he cannot overcome this foe alone and tells Jimmy to go to NG to fetch help–or perhaps Jimmy can decide this on his own.
Superman fights parademons and such as in the animated series, only to be overcome Darkseid himself. When Darkseid parades him in front of the Metropolitans to break their spirit, it is Lois who rallies the people.
Jimmy, meanwhile, persuades the reluctant New Genesians to intervene on Earth’s behalf and brings Orion & the New God cavalry to force Darkseid to back down. And…
As he retreats, Darkseid murders Jimmy just to be a jerk. But
Lois and Clark are reconcile because of the experience.
You just violated my dictate that it can’t be other supers saving the Earth, it has to be the people of the Earth doing their own saving.
What would satisfy it would be something akin to an alien or robot invasion, with the Earth getting it’s ass kicked and Superman far too busy at the higher level (and/or getting his ass kicked up and down the street by sheer volume of enemies)…
…When the average people, instead of running and crawling and crying for salvation, finally start picking up the enemy’s own fallen weapons and fighting back.
