Man of Steel is going to rock your freaking socks off

Mark my words. Save this thread so you can mock me if I’m wrong…

Snyder is rebooting the Superman franchise with a new origin movie, and if the trailers are any indication, he’s doing it right this time.

Let’s face it, Superman as we know him today sucks. There’s about as much emotional depth to him as a cup a coffee. For us to care about him, what he needed was a good old fashioned beating with the “humanizing” stick. I’m hoping this new version shows us a toned-down power level, and much more emotionally human Superman.

I think one reason the movie may suck is Zack Snyder.

But one reason it may not suck is Christopher Nolan.

So I’m guessing you weren’t a fan of “Sucker Punch” then?

Most certainly not. Nor of 300 or Watchmen. I didn’t mind the Owls of Gahoole though.

At most diners, a cup of coffee is bottomless. Bottomless is about as deep as you can get.
Just sayin’.

I don’t mind them adding depth to the character. I just hope they spare us the Jesus imagery this time.

The Jesus imagery in Superman is bad but not nearly as bad as the Superman imagery in Godspell.
(confession: in my errant youth, I went through a period when I was unable to recognize that Godspell sucks)

I like Godspell.

As for Jesus imagery, Bryan, you obviously haven’t seen these…

“Jehovah, Joseph, and Mary!” the Irish might say.

I just viewed the trailer. I am hooked.
And I don’t even like Superman.

This could be really great.

It’s already been screened for several people, and advance word is that it’s amazing. Like, really amazing.

The trailers and marketing are playing it close to the chest, though, which for now is working against it. No one is really looking forward to this yet.

I’m deducting a couple of points for not getting rid of the stupid cape. That said, I look forward to seeing this movie.

I certainly hope Snyder understands Superman better than *you *do.

As a lifelong fan, I have great hopes. And I do like Zach Snyder, so…
And he needs the cape: without the cape how can he get sucked into the Giant Fan Blades (which, of course, break on contact with him).

Are you saying that the costume design for this movie has produced a particularly stupid looking cape and you wish they’d got rid of it and gone with a more classic look?

Or are you saying you’d prefer a capeless Superman, for Superman to have a cape at all is stupid, and you’d like them to get rid of the cape all together?
I can kind of get behind the idea that functionless capes are a stupid comic book hero convention, but they are a well-established convention so I’m able to just accept them as part of the package without being bugged by it. Doing Superman without a cape? The cape is such a part of the very iconic Superman imagery. They could never get away with that.

Papa Kent saying maybe Clark should let people die?

I don’t think anyone is a fan of Sucker Punch.

But this movie looks legit. At least the trailer does, anyway. I’ve seriously been watching it probably once a week since it came out. Whoever’s responsible for cutting it together deserves a fucking medal.

This was discussed in depth in the last Man of Steel Thread.
We’ll probably have to see the whole scene to really interpret it fully, but the consensus in the other Thread seemed to be that Pa Kent’s “maybe” seems very unsure and troubled. He’s concerned about Clark but is just now recognizing the dilemma that has to be faced considering Clark can help people in life-or-death circumstances. Previously “keep your abilities hidden” seemed like an easy safety measure. They’re just now looking at the moral question from a recent ocurrence when lives were at stake.

The editing makes it sound that way.

Personally, I’m creaming at the idea of Michael Shannon playing General Zod.

I’ll take that bet. This movie is going to blow.
