And the reason why we have Newsom as gov, since the GOP ran this total loser vs Newsom. The repubs out here hate Newsom, and they hate that I point out that Newsom is 100% their fault for running such a total crackpot and loser vs him.
Now, I do not like Newsom, but he handled the covid crisis quite well, imho.
Whatever Newsoms faults, he has done the job a hundred times better than Cox would have done.
The thought of Caitlyn Jenner and John Cox furiously debating on the same stage and getting into a major slapfight that spreads to their followers in the audience gives me a Major Happy.
I don’t know how I’ve avoided those Cox commercials until the last day or so, but those describing them didn’t do justice to how completely stupid they are. Cox must be spending a mint on these unbelievably dumb ads.
I think it is highly likely Newsom would have won against even a decent opposition candidate. The Republicans are fighting from behind in California, especially for statewide executive offices. And Newsom is a seasoned, photogenic, TV-friendly campaigner. Cox just made it a super-easy landslide - 62-38%.
And expected to cost over $200 million. Oh, well - at least there are no other pressing issues now facing California on which that money might be better spent.
And a reminder that the next gubernatorial election in CA is November 8, 2022. The stupid, it burns, but is also knows how to exploit a small seam in the elections process to weasel even the most tiny possibility of winning.
Hopefully, Newsom will crush this dumb recall, then use the results as a cudgel against these dipsticks in that next real election.
Ah, no. You can’t name a California Republican who could have defeated Newsom. Not because he’s so great in himself. There just aren’t the votes any more to elect a Republican governor, absent really obvious and serious issues with the Democrat, which Newsom did not (and does not) have. See the statistics quoted above about Democratic Party dominance in the state.
I’m far from a fan of Newsom, I think he’s an opportunist of the first water. He talks too much and becomes quickly boring. I don’t think he has a prayer of anything better than maybe US Senator after being Governor. I think he would fail spectacularly if he tried to run for President.
Well, there was Arnold Schwarzenegger. There are Moderate Republicans, and I would have liked to see a choice. Cox is a blithering carpetbagging moron, and not a choice. I would rather vote for his bear.
I might even have voted for a real choice. I did vote for Arnie.
But yeah, Newsom is smarmy. And he set gay rights back by his bragging.
Kevin Faulconer is a choice. I am not saying I would vote for him, but I would research him, listen to a debate, etc.
Do you suppose the bear could be on the ballot? I mean, I’d still probably vote for Newsom, but it would be interesting to see what a bear could get up to as governor, at least for a little while.
Yeah, I don’t understand what you mean. He unilaterally decided to perform gay marriages at San Francisco city hall. IMO that act led, directly, to gay marriage being allowed throughout the country.
