Recent moments of Duh

There come times in everyone’s lives, even Dopers, when she or he realizes that a “mystery” is just their failure to properly connect dots into a sequence of cause and effect.

Let’s take me for example. Six or seven weeks ago I got these toning sneakers from Champion. I wanted the Sketchers ones, but these are a fifth of the cost so I decided to give them a go first. One of my coworkers keeps asking if they’re working, but I haven’t known what to tell her. You can’t wear them when it’s wet out, and my legs only ache like I’ve done anything when I’ve worn other shoes.

On a completely unrelated note, I had something strange happen to three pairs of sleep pants in just the past week and a half. The elastic must have worn out on all three pairs at just about the same time, because they ride up higher on my shins when I’m trying to sleep. Isn’t that a strange coincidence? I mean, I don’t think they’re even the same age or anything…

:smack:

It took me a week and a half to figure out that these two things were related.

So next time I see that coworker, I’ll have something to tell her about how the shoes work now.

Your turn!

You know, I was sitting here reading the post, wondering what exactly your new sneakers had done to the elastic on your pajama pants…

My duh moment - I think I need a clearer picture of what you’re talking about, regarding how your pajamas relate to your toning runners.

Assuming you’re not just asking for pictures of elfkin’s calves, the sneakers have helped grow/firm up the muscle there, making the pants more snug in that region.

My moment of Duh came this morning in the form of an email from my doctor. I have a fractured metatarsal that hasn’t healed since I injured it 4 months ago. I had asked him for advise on starting up my exercise regime which includes a lot of weight lifting with specific questions on what and how much weight etc.

I thought his response would be along the lines of “oh yes, the rest of the foot will take the weight just fine” or "Oh no the bone will snap in two ".His response? “Try all of the exercises mentioned and if it hurts STOP” Well duh.

Guess I deserved that but it sure sounded snotty.

Ah, elastics on the legs, not around the waist. I was wondering how a toned waist would make your pants ride higher.

ETA: I told you it was a moment of duh.

After I had an appendectomy (and a one-week stay in the hospital), I returned to work. It was the week after Christmas (at an office job), and tasks were low-demand.

I’d worn one of my favorite button-down shirts, but noticed that the left cuff (but not the right) was especially tight. I kept thinking that it had shrunk. (But not the right one?) I even unbuttoned it and rolled up the sleeve, and noticed that it was still tight.

A while later, I’d rolled it back down. Then my boss came over to talk to me. He looked at my left arm and exclaimed, “My God! Your arm’s swollen!”

Yes, my entire forearm was swollen from an infection from my IV site. But I was clueless.

(Kinda goes with the appendicitis, because I’d thought I’d just had a 4-day bout of indigestion. Until the day when I couldn’t even walk out of my apartment building because of the pain.)

A non-medical one that happened to me just today.

I’ve seen the Taylor Swift video for “You Belong With Me” a few times. But somehow I never noticed, until it was pointed out, that Swift is playing both girls in the video.
