TVLAND ran a marathon of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1950s anthology programs recently. In one of them, there is a face off between James Caan and Walter Koenig! This story Memo from Purgatory, penned by Harlan Ellison, featured Caan as a writer (possibly based on Ellison?) and Chekov as the leader of a gang in Brooklyn. Caan is trying to join the gain to get info on doing a story. When they discover his notes, there is a very discreet reference questioning Koenig’s manhood, saying that “he is the only gang member without a [gang moll], and he appears to be afraid of the opposite sex. . .” Hmmm. . .
In a recent “Wild, Wild, West” rerun, Night of the Sabatini Death, Jim West’s *guest assistant was portrayed by Alan “The Skipper” Hale, jr. At the end of the program, The Skipper and West are talking about what they’re going to do next. The Skipper says, “I’m thinking about a vacation, maybe on a desert island somewhere.” At which point, were hear a few bars of the “Gilligan’s Island” theme.
In an episode of “The John Larroquette Show,” one name that showed up in the credits was Nikki Tyler. THE Nikki Tyler? Don’t know. I watched this program several times, and if it was truly porn queen extraordinaire Nikki Tyler, either one of two things happened: her scenes were deleted or she’s one of the background people who is so obscured that she can’t be positively IDed. Any Nikki fans that was to try to spot her let me know. There weren’t any other noticeable gals in the entire episode.
*Ross Martin suffered a heart attack during the run of “Wild, Wild West,” and a number of actors filled the role of sidekick to Robert Conrad, most notably, longtime affable-guy-at-large William Schallert.
