Recently Rented DVD/Video And Mini Reviews

So what have you all rented recently and what did you think?

I have recently rented:

The Good Girl - with J. Aniston…it was actually pretty good, she was very good but the film is NOT a comedy - despite the previews trying to sell it as one.

XXX - with Vin Diesel…a nice rip-off of the 007 genre…some scenes so unbelievable you laugh out loud, but for mindless action, it was fun.

Bloodwork - Clint Eastwood - pretty good, standard ex-cop solves murders mystery.

Advertising Rules - a German film you can find in the US at some stores…mildly amusing, but predictable plot.

Signs - Mel Gibson - was ok. Better than I thought it would be - sort of an extended episode of the X-Files.

I also recently rented The Good Girl and I also thought it was generally pretty good. Aniston was so completely different from her “Rachel” character; she deserved the critical praise that I heard when the movie first came out. Did they really try to promote this as a comedy? I’d agree that would be a gross mischaracterization if they did.

I also rented Unfaithful with Richard Gere and Diane Lane. Another pretty decent effort. Not too unpredictable, but not too over-the-top unbelievable either. I thought the balanced the exhiliration/despair surrounding the wife’s affair very well. I also thought Gere was very much "un"like his usual character in this one… almost playing a geeky, not-so-confident husband.
