Thought I’d share this. Jello is fun food, and Jello Shots can be more fun.
Recipe: Bullitt’s and Bea’s Jello Shots (Jell-O Shots)
4 Notes
-
This recipe is in honor of my mother-in-law, Bea. The first Jello Shots I ever did was in New Orleans with her, on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter (Father-in-law and wife wanted nothing to do with the Jello Shots that night).
-
This recipe is an homage to IMPAC Medical Systems’ company Christmas parties.
-
When I first made these I just ‘winged it’ and guessed at this recipe. I did not follow anyone’s recipe. They tasted good and were a big hit at the IMPAC Medical company Christmas party one year, so I’ve always made them this way.
-
This recipe is in memory of my dad. Jello Shots were a good way to dispose of his excess alcohol and it was the first time I ever made these.

3 Recommendations
It’s recommended but not required to use:
∘ A grubby wet sponge for Jello spills. Caution, spills happen often and Jello can stain badly. Use a grubby sponge, it’s better than using a new one.
∘ A pouring vessel like a small measuring cup. Or a turkey baster can help. Pouring the hot Jello mixture into the soufflé cups can be tricky and messy. A good pouring vessel can be helpful
∘ A cookie sheet or similar to put the soufflé cups on, to transfer them to the refrigerator and also to stack the (covered) soufflé cups as the Jello sets so they take up less refrigerator space. For a smaller footprint in the refrigerator.

Ingredients and gear:
∘ 6oz box Jello
∘ 2C of cheap alcohol; any will do but I like to use vodka, and the cheaper the better
∘ 2oz soufflé cups and lids. Smart & Final is a good store for getting these.
∘ Optional: spray whip cream
Makes approx 27 Jello Shots, 2ozs each.
Each Jello Shot contains 1oz alcohol, so they are pretty strong.

Jello Shots Recipe
⏵ In a small pot boil 2C water. Pour in the 6oz box Jello and stir until thoroughly dissolved.
⏵ Lay out the 2oz soufflé cups so they are ready for pouring into (see cookie sheet in the recommendations above)
⏵ Only add the alcohol when you’re ready to pour the Jello mixture into the soufflé cups. When ready, add 2C booze to the Jello mixture. Stir gently, and not for long. You don’t want the alcohol to evaporate.
⏵ Pour Jello mixture into the 2oz soufflé cups
⏵ Optional: cover each soufflé cup; you can cover them now for ease of transfer to the refrigerator. Also covering now will minimize alcohol loss by evaporation, but I’ve done it both ways and you don’t lose a lot of alcohol.
⏵ Chill in refrigerator until firm; typically overnight
⏵ Once the Jello is set, use a toothpick to separate the Jello from the sides of each soufflé cup. Makes them easier to eat. You don’t have to separate the bottom of the Jello from the soufflé cups. Separating just the sides suffices.
⏵ Cover each soufflé cup with a lid and transfer them to the party.
Optional: spray whip cream onto each Jello Shot for eating. I’ve never bothered with this but it should be more festive!
Have fun!
