"Reckless" Operation??

Ok, whats the deal with that? I see the seperate spelling, yes, but when I hear reckless, I can’t help but think “Wreckless” which, when you think about it, sounds like a good thing. Wreckless, although it is not a word, would mean without wrecking. So whats the deal? Where did reckless come from? Couldn’t they have found a better word?

The same root as “reckon.” “Reck” is a perfectly good word, and it’s not the fault of the law that it’s fallen out of fashion. It’s nobody’s fault but your own if you don’t know the difference – it’s not like they came up with it yesterday (12th century, vs, 13th century for wreck)
