Recommend a coffee maker - Keurig? Something else?

Cool!
I was happy to read this:

Yay. So I can still do my Sumatra + Italian roast blend.

These -

have a better review and do not require altering the Keurig (the one that Keurig offers requires removing the cup thingy)

So, with these, you can swap easy.

Mine should be here any day now.

I find it interesting that everyone talks Keurig and I only know one person who has (and loves) a Flavia. Is it the greater availability of cups for the Keurig?

Just ordered two!

I just pop out the little cupholder thingy and rinse it out same as you would with the basket of a regular coffee maker. Just gotta make sure not to stick your fingers on the needle inside used to poke open the bottom of the cups. Much faster than running an extra cycle.

I like the french press, but this last Xmas brought the Presso, a hand cranked espresso maker. Very, very nice. I highly recommend, plus it’s tidy.

That should probably bother me more than it does.

A friend who works at Starbucks has fallen in love with a machine they use called the Clover. It’s not even available in most Starbucks’ yet, but he states that when a version of it gets developed for home use it’s going to be the new Ab-Must-Have.

I just checked Sam’s Club, and they offer the Keurig Signature model, which is the B60, for $129.98.

Amazon sells the B60 for $175.00.

One of Amazon’s “Featured Merchants” sells the B60 for $149.00.

I think I need to make a trip to Sam’s Club very soon!

We bought the Cuisinart branded Keurig for Christmas. It’s definitely a novelty item but we’ve enjoyed trying different coffees and blends.

We went to Sam’s Club last night, and the Keurig jumped in the shopping basket of its own accord. I confess, I used the drip coffeemaker this AM, because I don’t function well without caffeine. I’m ready to pop that puppy out of the box and ride my way to Coffee Nirvana!

A box of assorted K-cups came with the Keurig. Sam’s had three different types of K-cups for sale, but none of the three was an assortment, and I want to try EVERYTHING before I settle down with one type of coffee!

Heh.

I’ll report back!

Bed, Bath & Beyond has a GINORMOUS selection of k-cups. I also got the Solofill as suggested by someone on this thread. It came yesterday.

I’ve been eyeing the Keurigs whenever I see them in stores lately, and this thread may convince me to go ahead and get one. I live alone and I don’t drink coffee every day, but I do enjoy a cup 2 or 3 times a week. My Mr. Coffee drip brewer is fine–especially when I have company–but the convenience of a Keurig is really attractive.

On the SoloFill - on the first time with mine - I had water coming out around the bottom of the thing where water wasn’t supposed to be - (its all supposed to come out the pour spout thing).

1.) there is a rubber gasket thingy on the needle/fill thing that punctures the regular k-cups - carefully pull that down a bit to insure a good seal.
2.) on the SoloFill - make sure that you fully close the lid.

Second attempt with the solofill was much better.

The SoloFill worked okay the first time, but thanks for the tips.

I love my new Keurig!

I’ve already gone to Amazon and put every K-cup variety assortment on my “Wish List.”

I don’t use a solofill, I use one of these. Works fine, cleanup’s a mess, but no more so than any other reusable filter on a normal coffepot.

Didn’t get it directly from them, it was actually a gift (along with the brewer) so I don’t know if you can get them cheaper elsewhere. I’d hope so as wow, that price seems a bit high to me.

Ugh. I am too late.

Keurig machines make terrible coffee and have fairly short lifespans. A friend of mine acquired one and it died within a year. They produce a tremendous amount of trash and you pay extra for coffee that has been sitting around in little prepackaged cups.

French Press + electric kettle would get my vote. If you do your prep the night before (i.e. “measuring coffee into the press” if you don’t grind your own beans) then the process is literally: Push button, pour water (probably about 45 seconds later). Wait 3 minutes (Go brush your hair, or get dressed or something) Press. You can leave the cleanup for the evening if you want, and the grounds can go into compost or down the garbage disposal. And you can make any coffee you want with it, rather than just what they want to sell you in overpriced K-cups. This is the approach that has provided my morning coffee very easily for years now, and it produces coffee that is leagues better than anything that comes out of one of those automated machines (I would be generous in describing Keurig coffee as “drinkable”).

And as someone who is both an environmentalist and just as someone who believes that we as a society produce TOO MUCH TRASH, particularly trash that is made from oil we don’t have, please, no more disposable plastic cups! I guess the re-usable K-cup things are okay, but they seem to defeat 90% of the point of buying the Keurig machine in the first place.

A bit more than $100.

I love the electric kettle & French press combo. My kettle can bring a quart of water to boil in about four minutes, faster (and apparently more efficient) than the stovetop or microwave.
