OK, I got DDR Extreme 2 for the PS2 a little while back and have quickly improved to the point where the basic Konami pad that came with it is just not cutting it anymore. The thing moves a foot or so and rotates about 45 degrees by the end of a song, not to mention the buttons will not register a step on occasion. So, I am looking for a new pad.
I can’t get a metal pad because I do not have enough room to store the thing flat (I also cannot mod my existing pad with a piece of plywood or something for the same reason) not to mention the exorbitant cost. I would also like to get a pair of pads so that I can try using them both at the same time.
The research I have done has told me that flat pads are nigh useless. So, I figure I will get one with a foam insert. Opinion also seems to be that the 3.0 Ignition pads (Redoctane and others) aren’t so hot either. They seem to be great at first, but quickly fall apart. The only generally positive reviews I seem to be finding are for the Mymybox Blueshark Deluxe. A new pair are available on ebay for $85. This is more than I want to spend but seems to be the minimum to make the purchase worthwhile at all.
Anybody have any other suggestions? I guess I could try a mod that can fold up, if I do, does anyone have a suggestion for a good base pad to use for it?
I have two Ignition 2.0 pads, and one of the arrows stopped working on one of them… but they’re great pads as long as they work, and I’m sure you can find tips on fixing them if they ever break. Unfortunately, RedOctane won’t repair them once they’re out of warranty, but they do offer a discount on replacements.
I was not aware of the discount on replacements. I was considering buying from the source rather than ebay for the warranty, but the ones I looked at only gave a month for replacements and it seems most failures happen just after that. Also, word of mouth seems to be that the 2.0 pads lasted much longer than the 3.0 pads, but the 2.0 pads are no longer readily available.
As to duct tape, that can be used to stick it to a board or something, but I would prefer not to use duct tape on the middle of my carpetted floor every time I wanted to use it. It also doesn’t help with the crappy buttons and response time.
Can I piggyback on this one and ask for recommendations for the XBox version?
Or for ways to keep the pad from moving when you use it? I’ve tried the rug grip scraps I had lying around and they don’t really work. It’s not really easy for me to roll my rug up and do it on the hardwood floors, either.
The Ignition 2.0 pads work with both Xbox and PS2… I think the 3.0 pads also work with the PC. They have grippy material on the bottom so they don’t slide around too much, but they still creep a little.
If your dance pad won’t stay put on carpet, you can try sticking it to a cleated chair mat with duct tape or carpet tape.
