I’ve been chosen as the hotel-procurer for a three night trip to Miami. Visiting Miami Beach seems to be a big part of the plan, so I’ve been asked to find a place near there.
We’ll most likely have a rental car, so I think as long as it’s a short drive from the beach everything should be fine.
We won’t be spending much of any time there other than sleeping and showering, so no need for it to be anything fancy.
Requirements:
–Clean
–Safe
–Quiet enough to sleep at night
–Parking, preferably at no charge
Bonus points if it’s within walking distance from the beach, or even better if it’s on the beach or has beach views, but I know that is too much to ask for on a budget.
P.S. This will be sometime in the third week of April, which is school vacation at least here in Boston. I suppose that might increases prices somewhat.
P.P.S. Is parking difficult on South Beach? Free or expensive?
I don’t think that “quiet” is a reachable goal during beach week. Go to the drugstore and get some of those foam earplugs before you leave town. You’ll thank me later. . .
Is there any chance that your crew would consider Venice beach instead? If you’re looking for quiet, it’s a much better choice. . .
Humm, well, it’s me who said “quiet.” The rest are all Brazilian, and have a relatively high tolerance for noise anyway. I just meant “quiet” in that from, say midnight to 8am there won’t be such a huge ruckus that I can’t sleep.
The traveling party will be me (36, male), girlfriend 37, female) her son (5) her daughter (16) and her mother (68).
Her mother acts more like 50, me, the girlfriend and her daughter each have souls of about 25, and her son likes pretty much anything.
We definitely want someplace that’s at least a little bit on the youthful, busy side of things. I just want to sleep at night in relative peace. The occasional comings and goings of people and cars don’t bother me…I’m thinking more like fights, domestic disputes, drunken idiots, I just don’t want to sleep too close to that.
I stayed at the Greenview Hotel on Washington Ave.
- Cheap - Check
- Quiet - Check
- Safe - Check
- Clean - Hmmmm… Bathrooms left a lot to be desired. Hallways were extremely drab. Rooms…ok
- Close to the Beach - Maybe two blocks. Its on Washington Ave. The Loews, the Delano and the Ritz are behind the hotel about a block closer to the beach.
- Close to stuff - Lincoln Road Mall is a block south.
- Parking - Public Parking lot across the street. Was $10 a day when I was there. Good news is that you don’t have to drive around too much. There is a shuttle bus on Washington that costs 25 cents a ride.
Would I stay there again myself? Probably not. The hotel prices a bit less than $100 a night. For the same price, I could score a better joint on Priceline. But if you aren;t a Priceline person, then this is one of the cheaper options in that area.
try the miami motel next to malibu… or to the airport… is great!
