I’ll be in Miami next week, without a car. I’ll be staying at the Hyatt Regency, at SE 2nd Ave and SE 3rd Street.
What’s the easiest (and not too expensive) way to get from the airport to the hotel? And what’s the easiest (and not too expensive) way to get from the hotel to South Beach?
It’s not every day that a question about my quaint lil’ ol’ home town comes up. Having just returned from a visit there, I’m fully qualified to answer your question.
Rent a car at the airport. Any other options will be either complex, expensive, or both.
Renting a car is not a reasonable option. I’d have to pay for it for several days, plus pay for parking at the hotel, just to use it a few times. Isn’t there public transportation connecting the airport to downtown, and downtown to South Beach (I’m going there only once)?
The last time I was there (Halloween) the road construction around the airport was horrendous and the rental car system was a nightmare. I’d avoid it if at all possible.
I would think you could get a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and then arrange from transportation to the beach and back. Any good hotel will be able to work with you on setting that up - call the concierge desk ahead of time and ask.
The Hyatt has an airport shuttle service that will set you back $18 each way. A cab is only a little more expensive at $20.
A cab ride to SoBe will run you $20-$30 each way assuming you walk once you get on the island, which is not something most people attempt.
In theory, you should be able to ride the downtown metro mover (elevated tram) to a bus that could take you over to the beach. Being a Miami native I have never stepped on a bus and would have no idea where you could catch one, what the fare might be or what time of night they stop running.
Yep. If you happen to know anyone around there (friends or family), get rides from them. Calling a cab isn’t a terrible idea and saves you from trying to navigate Miami’s highway system on your own. I lived there for a few years and just recently move back up to Stuart (2 hours north). Fun place, but it’s expensive. Oh, and it gets hot.
Most of the nicer hotels downtown (yours included) should have shuttles not only to and from the airport, but also to and from the major touristy spots. For example, you might be able to hop a shuttle from the hotel to Bayside or to a specific hotspot on South Beach. They are probably not free.
I would fly into Ft. Lauderdale and rent a car. But I used to live there and know how to get from FTL to SoBe. The airport in FTL and car rental system is much easier to get into or out of.
