Recommend a game like Fallout 1 & 2, Baldur's Gate, or Planescape Torment, anyone?

Is Shadowrun Returns a good candidate for this kind of game? I haven’t played an older-style isometric game in a long time. My computer is from 2012 and I have played newer games like Fallout 3(ten years old!), Skyrim, all the Elder Scrolls.

I thought it might be fun to go back to an older style game, though.

Anyone want to recommend one for me?

Not sure if you noticed the Free PC Game thread, but Shadowrun Returns Deluxe Edition is free from Humble Store right now so go try it.

Pillars of Eternity?

Pillars of Eternity, though IMHO your party members don’t have the same level of individual personality I found in Baldur’s Gate. They should have just ported Minsc over. Shadowrun Returns and the others are fun and play similarly, but they are light on the role-playing options.

Wasteland 2

Check out UnderRail.

Pillars of Eternity and it’s improved sequel Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire are spiritual successors to the Baldur’s Gate style of games (to the point of using “you must gather your party before venturing forth” soundbite).

Shadowrun Returns, the first game with no subtitle (though the campaign is called Dead Man’s Switch) is kind of like Fallout 1. I’m glad I played it, but no real desire to try again. The second game, Dragonfall, greatly improved on the gameplay as well as the plot and characterization. The third, Hong Kong, is a more incremental upgrade over DF. Gameplay is similar in all 3, just 2/3 have included skills etc. besides shooting.

Yup, this is the best answer.

Divinity Original Sin 2 is also excellent.

I see that the common thread in OP’s examples is that you must gather your party before venturing forth.
