Recommend a good desk chair

I spend a lot of time at my desk and am still trying to find a comfortable, ergonomic desk chair. Does anyone have suggestions for an affordable, comfortable chair?

Thanks!

What exactly qualifies as “affordable”?

I spend at least 7 hours a day in front of my computer. About a year ago, I decided that I was tired of dealing with the back, hip, and leg pain from the $100 “executive” chair I was using. I looked into it some, and decided to splurge on a Herman Miller Aeron chair. I have to say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made…no more aches and pains. I got it from eBay; IIRC, it cost ~$450 (plus an additional $50 shipping).

I found that Consumer Search’s aggregate reviews of office chairs was pretty helpful. A quick google also turned up this set of reviews (which may be helpful as it seems to present a different set of chairs than Consumer Search).

There is a really great chair out there that is very affordable (under $200) It has bungee cords for the seat and back. It has great support and is really comfortable. Try it, you’ll like it!

I am fortunate enough to own a Herman Miller Aeron Chair.
I do not have enough superlatives for it. It cost me about $800, and I hesitated, and then my sister said, “Hey, nobody ELSE is going to buy a really comfortable place for your fat ass.” So I got it.

I gazed longingly at the Herman Miller chairs, but I eventually ended up buying this, the HON 7800. On my work days, I spend 10 hours in my chair almost without a break, so I need to be able to adjust everything. A former employer that was extremely ergonomically sensitive (meaning “had been sued for worker’s comp injury”) provided these chairs, so I knew they were good. The price was pretty reasonable.

I was disappointed that with all the levers and doohickeys on my chair there wasn’t one that made my job less boring. Bah.

I’m a bit of a fat ass but I refuse to believe that I can single handily destroy three computer chairs in four years. The first three were cheap but the one I am sitting on cost around 300 USD

One chair arm is broken after little more than a year and the leather is cracking on my armrest.

I have one of those backless chairs (like this or this). Despite their unusual appearance, I find them much more comfortable. Unlike a conventional chair (which is designed for sitting back in) they’re designing for sitting forward and working at a desk.
