Recommend a good Tarnish remover

I have some brass fittings with a lot of tarnish on them can someone recommend a good fast tarnish remover?

Brasso, found at any major supermarket works well. It’s what Servicemen/Servicewomen use to clean the brass parts of their uniforms.

In this thread, Lissa recommended something called Nevr-Dull.

Thanks, you guys are quick. MissSwish I’ve used brasso being an ex-grunt myself, I was hoping for something with a little less polishing involved.

Ah, then you are also familar with the smell and the messy rags that are the essense of brasso. Nevr-Dull sounds like much of the same.

Salt and vinegar mixed into a paste might work, but will still require rubbing. I don’t recall if Tarnex works on brass, but its for dipping.

One other thing that works for silver, again I don’t know if it works on brass, but its cheap and you probably have everything at home now; Line the bottom of a sink with tinfoil, sprinke genrously with baking soda, pour a large quanity of boiling water into the sink, dip your fixtures or leave them to soak.

Here’s a site that might help:

Thanks, that just might work. Oh and I HATE HATE HATE brasso. It does work however.

Try Maas polish. It’s more expensive than others, but is a concentrated paste and lasts forever. I have a tube I bought about eight years ago. I’m sure you can find it in a local store.

I hate Brasso too after using it for 20 years in the military, although it ain’t bad strained through a loaf of bread and served on the rocks.

We used that in the Navy to polish all of those navular brass fittings. It comes in a big can and looks like wool or cotton batting soaked in something that bears a strong resemblence to Brasso.

I liked the Nevr-Dull because you didn’t need to look for rags.

That said, it wasn’t any more effective than Brasso and smelled similar.
