Recommend a jet fighter computer game

Hi, I am looking for a jet fighter computer game. One with good missions, graphics, and game play.

old but still a goodie Total airwar (can be gotten for about $10)

for realism Flanker 2.0 get the .5 patch though

for good campaigns get Falcon 4 (beware major machine needed)

for mud moving get Janes F/A-18

avoid

Falcon 3 (bad instability)
jetfighter series not too hot IMO
Typhoon (limited campaign scripted and silly independance day type thing at the end)

If you go with Falcon 4, be sure to visit http://www.f4community.com and look into the third-party patches there, particularly the Realism and eFalcon duo. I’ve fallen out of simming in general over the last year, I’m sure both have made even more strides in that time.

The process of getting it fully up to functional snuff, however, what with all those user patches, was only slightly less complex than the actual sim, at least at the time I shelved it.

Give Mig Alley a try. It’s a Korean War flight sim. You have the speeds of jet fighters but no guided missles. Try dog fighting with a Mig 15 at 600 knots.

I got mine for 10 bucks at Wal Mart. No book though. The manual is in PDF format, so you will need acrobat reader.

Fun and easy - Jane’s USAF

Realistic and modern - Jane’s F-18

Realistic and Historic - Mig Alley

I’ll add to the question. Are there any good multiplayer online jet fighter computer games? (Can I get any more specific than that?) I’ve seen online racing and fighting, but I want to have a jet fight against a squadron of real human opponents.

I used to dig sims in my teenage years (LHX Attack Chopper, some old MiG one I can’t remember the name of, and a F-22 one were my favorites of the air-oriented ones) but either I’ve lost my attention span as I got older or they’ve gotten too complex for me over the years so I couldn’t recomend any newer ones. If you have a nice machine with a decent 3D card in it and would like to try something really fun, a bit out there, and less simmish, look into Crimson Skies. It doesn’t have jets (set in 1937), but it’s set in an alternate universe where plane technology advanced a lot faster in the '30s and some of the planes are capable of speeds exceeding 600 knots. Anyway, it’s got a fairly large online community (so you can kill human pilots), the planes are customizable, and it has a really interesting and varied (though heavily scripted) single-player campaign where you are an ‘Air Pirate’ and you travel across the country robbing zeppelins and getting into trouble in your air-craft carrying zeppelin. Really good game, if not exactly what you are looking for.
