I want a portable DVD player. But I do not want to get screwed. And I don’t want to spend $300. And I don’t want to get screwed.
I was looking at the reviews for players on Amazon. On each model, half loved it and half got a lemon that broke down after 2 months.
So, any dopers have experience they’d like to share?
I’d bought a no-name (MinTek, I think) player from Best Buy for about $200 + ~$20 for the “you break it, we fix it” Best Buy extended warrenty.
The DVD player worked for 3 months, then died. Best Buy replaced it with a new Polaroid DVD player that’s lived 10 months so far and performed well. And it has a larger screen than the other model.
Extended warranties are usually a ripoff and unnecessary. For a portable electronics purchase – or an electronics category with as bad a reputation as low-end portable DVD players – the store insurance may not be a bad idea. YMMV.
