… because I’m tired of my aging electric cord mower, and I am thinking of buying one.
Some details: I own a relatively small lot (30’ by 120’) with a lot of odd courners, caused by the placement of the garage (it squats in the middle of the back yard), which makes trailing a cord a bit of a pain.
So what is your experience? Good models, bad models - let’s hear it.
We’ve got a nice little Toro that works just fine. We too have a odd shaped mowing pattern, due to the Cub’s trampoline and play set.
I’ve got the 40v Ryobi mower, as well as the string trimmer and hedge clipper. The mower is a little wimpy but fine for my lot (28x150),and the other two pieces work really well. I would buy the same set again.
My husband just got the Mow Joe for our smallish lawn - to complement the Snow Joe snow blower (also small drive and walkway). He loves both.
I spent the better part of a year and a half (well, in Michigan, so more like about 6 months total) using a Ryobi 40v mower. Unless the other rechargeable mowers are way better, my opinion is that rechargeable mowers are not “there” yet. If you ever end up letting the grass get too long, they really struggle with getting it cut. Even at a “normal” span of one week, they do not do a great job of cutting grass unless your grass is not very thick.
I switched to a corded lawnmower this year (a Kobalt, from Lowe’s) and the difference in cut quality is tremendous. In fact, I’d say the Kobalt does a better job than the gas-powered Toro I had before I switched to the battery-operated one. Managing the cord is less fun than not having to, but I figured out how to do it fairly quickly and it’s not too bad. And I have a “big” yard for the city: 100 x 150 (about 1/3 of an acre) with several trees, a patio, and a play structure to move around.
