Recommend a season of Buffy - or should I go with Firefly?

I got Firefly. I still haven’t gotten past the premiere. It didn’t grab me.

Which episode? If you tried to watch them in broadcast order, then no wonder. If you started with the 2-parter Serenity, then there is no hope for you.

Actually, I must confess that I wasn’t sucked into Firefly with Serenity (the pilot) either. It was after I saw either The Train Job or Bushwhacked, can’t remember, that I really started to dig the show and gained a new appreciation for the pilot.

Firefly. As much as I loved Buffy, *Firefly *was a far superior series.

Curse you and your sudden, yet inevitable, betrayal, Fox!

Actually, that was a pretty good episode – had an “It’s A Wonderful Life” vibe to it, and Buffy and Cordelia sorta bonded. You should have stayed till the end of that one.

I take back all the nice things I ever said about you.

That doesn’t help. You’re supposed to say “No, that wasn’t one of the best, season X was much better” or something. If that was pretty good, then I’m doubly mad that Firefly got canceled and Buffy got 6 seasons (or whatever).
Band Candy is next, followed by Revelations.

FIREFLY FIREFLY FIREFLY.

We watch it all the time, and I wasn’t interested the first time around because of the rabidity of the fans when it was on TV.

I have the season on my Ipod and I’ve seen each episode at least 10 times or more, get Firefly.

And I’ve removed you from my master list of Doper beneficiaries to whom I have bequeathed my yet unearned millions.

I have 'Firefly" on DVD and I highly recommend it. It’s fun.

The first 15 minutes of the first episode put me off a little, with Mal and his “We’re too pretty to die” BS. I thought maybe I had made a mistake buying it.

Not at all, as it turns out. “Serenity” is good as well.

I watched the first 3 seasons of “Buffy”, and really like it. I’m a little hesitant about buying the 4th season. The reviews are 50/50, and it isn’t available at Blockbuster.

Should I buy the 4th season?

Buffy’s fourth season is not as strong as two and three, but it does have a lot of good episodes. It definitely was a transitional time for the show.

Oh, and I think the answer to your non-availability problem is to stop shopping at Blockbuster.

'Nother vote for Firefly.

Totally worth it. Season 4 is my wife’s favorite. It has some of Buffy’s single best episodes in it, namely “Pangs,” “Something Blue,” “Hush,” “This Year’s Girl/Who Are You?,” and “Primeval/Restless.” “Hush” alone makes the season worth buying.

Personally, I agree. Season Four’s high points definitely outweigh its low points. But I know a lot of people disagree with me and just hate all the stuff with Adam and Riley.

Firefly! I’m watching it in the background right now. I was like you and saw Serenity first. It does ruin a couple of plot points, but it’s just as much fun to learn backstory as it is to learn everything in order. Besides, every DVD set of those sold is another hint to the TV execs that it’d be wildly profitable to put it back on the air.

Buffy fan here.

But yeah, if you liked Serenity, then Firefly is the next logical choice. The series is better than the movie.

As for which Buffy season … hmm …

Rent Season 1, watch “Welcome to the Hellmouth,” “the Harvest,” “Never Kill a Boy on the First Date,” “Angel,” and “Prophecy Girl.”

Then go into Season 2. After that, you should be hooked.

Well, you guys finally suckered me into it. Without having seen a single episode before, I bypassed Netflix and went directly to buying Firefly while shopping for DVD’s. I haven’t watched it yet (I also have to go through the newest season of Frasier + Curb Your Enthusiasm), but I wanted to let you know that you’ve swayed one more.

One of us, one of us, one of us…

I promise, by the time you get to “curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal,” you’ll be hooked.

I envy you, getting to see it for the first time.
