Recommend a shared web hosting service to me

I have a web design company. We had been using a shared hosting package with 1and1.com, but this past fall we had nightmarish service interruptions from them and feel a strong need to go somewhere else.

I had tried to run a dedicated server myself via Hostway, but it’s a bit more than I can handle (I’m not THAT big of a nerd, nor that big of a Windows person … which is ironic, since all of our programming is Windows-server based), and it’s tres expensive for our needs, as we have decided to get out of the hosting game as much as possible (just build, deliver, and leave it to the client to host … far fewer headaches down the line).

I did like Hostway’s customer service, etc., though, and assumed I could just get a shared hosting package through them. Well, I can, but it turns out each hosting package only supports a single web site. So that’s $45 a month for a single web site, vs. $13 a month for ALL of our sites at 1and1. Yipes.

So here’s what I need:

  • Windows server
  • ASP, ASP.NET
  • Microsoft SQL Server (with multiple database capability)
  • unlimited domains/web sites (preferably; 10-20 sites would be OK; small nominal upcharges per domain would also be OK)
  • Mail, FTP, etc. etc.

Anyone got a favorite?

My web design company has been using www.fullcontrol.net for 3 or 4 years now. We have 5 servers with them.

I am not sure how their prices compare because we’ve always been with them.

BUT…their machines are top-notch (always upgrading), connection is like 99.99% and their support is unbeatable. They respond lickety-split to problems - problems that are usually our fault.

They have a lot of different plans and pricing.

I do believe we get a little discount for referring someone them (but that’s not why I am referring them - it’s for the reasons above) so if you DO decide to go with them and you are feeling generous, send me a PM on here or an email

I’ve been very satisfied with GoDaddy and I’m pretty sure it will be cheaper than what you have now.

I have Godaddy too, and I am pretty sure they have everything you mentioned, and they have really good customer service too.

I’m happy with www.NameZero.com

I use www.netrillium.com. I use a reseller plan of theirs that gets me almost a gig of space for $9 a month. The server almost never goes down except for maintenance - so maybe a half hour to an hour twice a week.

The downside is that I don’t think they use Windows servers. UNIX is, as far as I know, the more secure setup, and that’s what they use. But they’re super cheap, have AWESOME customer service (they’ve fixed php coding for me before, for free - totally not what they’re supposed to do, but it sold me as a customer) and are generally willing to work with you. They take cash, checks, money orders, or debit/credit cards. If you have to switch from one to the other (I closed my bank account and switched over to sending them money orders every month) it’s as easy as shooting them an e-mail.

…I’m a total Netrillium whore. I love them. They’ve been very good to me.

What the…really? You find this acceptable?

You don’t use this for any business sites, I hope.
Re: GoDaddy…I’ve only worked with them on domains (over 100 now) and their cart services but their customer support IS really good - albeit you have to call a non-toll-free number to get to it. Their prices are great too.
