We recently purchased a Wii console and the Wii Fit package – I needed to add some exercise to my routine and it’s been great; I love all the Wii Sports games and the Fit aerobics and balance games.
I have two young children (three and five) who are enamored with the game, but don’t really have the coordination to play – although the five year old can bowl reasonably well. I recently rented “Carnival Games” which the box said was “fun for the whole family” but these games were MUCH harder than the Wii Sports games are, and only one person could play at a time.
Can someone recommend a good Wii game for younger children, preferably something they can play together?
My (now) 5-year old played Wii Sports bowling a few times starting around 3 at a friend’s house. We picked up a Wii back in April and he was definitely not really good at it, but now he plays the four main sports just fine, and gives me a run for the money sometimes. We also have Wii Play (I think that’s what it’s called), but those games seem slightly tougher.
Thanks for the replies; I’ll try out Mario Kart. I like racing games too so that may be one we’ll all enjoy.
I have to mention how cute my not-quite-3 yr old daughter is with Boxing. She just kind of waves the controllers around in front of her, and wins about half the time.
My oldest daughter is 4 1/2 years old. In addition to liking Mario Kart (at which she’s now an expert), she also likes being “player 2” in Super Mario Galaxy. Player 2 just has to wave the controller around to collect little “star bits” on the screen while the main player does the harder stuff. (Also, my daughter loves to be the backseat driver, telling the grownups what they should do next, and to watch out for monsters.)
The only possible drawback for you is that she’ll need a grownup playing alongside her – but it’s a great game, and you’ll probably enjoy it too!
Hey, does that Mario Kart game come with a steering wheel attachment? And do you need the steering wheel to play, or can you just hold the regular controller sideways?
Yup, it comes with a wheel. No, you don’t need to use it. I do love using it though–it feels better than using the controller by itself, and makes it easier to use the trigger-button underneath, I find.
You can also buy just the steering wheel for multiple players.
My son quite enjoys the Diego game, but be warned that is a one person game (a second person can help at certain times, but most of the time it’s one player). And avoid the Cars game, it’s horrible. My son can’t figure it out, and it drives me nuts.
