Well, I have a Wii, as well as a 5yo, a 4yo, and a 3yo. The four year old doesn’t really care much for the Wii, but her big sister and little brother love it. The five year old got Dora Saves the Snow Princess and Diego something or another for xmas, and can play them completely by herself. Also, the two player racing mode for those two games (they use the same engine) is easy enough that her three year old brother can play with her and have fun.
Other than those two games, we’ve had a lot of fun with WiiPlay, which also comes with an extra wiimote. There is a Mii finding game (think where’s waldo) that they all love on it, and the three year old boy loves the shooting gallery game.
Mario Kart using the steering wheel has also gone over very well, though my daughter did need help steering for the first while, she’s just gotten good enough to do it by herself. With the three year old, I give him the wiimote for the gas and steer for him with a nunchuck.
They like watching me play Mario Galaxy, but not if I do a “scary” level. It has a very limited two player assist mode where a second player can collect and shoot star bits, which is just about my daughter’s speed. She tried to play the game, but it was a bit tricky for her yet.
I got Wiifit as well, and that goes over fairly well, especially the skiing minigame. I rented WeSki (which uses the balance board) but it was way too complex for the little ones.
Boom Blox was a blast, and the kids did ok at some of the multiplayer modes, but they had problems with the fine control required for the jenga like games.
The newest addition to our library was Monopoly. I was surprised how excited the kids got over that one, and we’ve played it as a family several times in the last week. Other than needing help with the trading and building houses, the five year old picked that one up amazingly fast.
If your daughter is easily frustrated, I’d highly recommend those Dora and Diego games. They are aimed right at her age bracket and have simple controls. I’d also recommend WiiPlay, for the extra wiimote.
