Recommend an investing/retirement book for my 55 y/o father

My dad is not very savvy with money. He makes a good income but I have no idea where it all goes, and I doubt he does either. At (~)55, I know for sure he’s not going to be able to retire on time without fairly substantial changes. Hiring a (commission-based) financial planner did not seem fruitful. I need a book recommendation, something he can read at his own pace and realize the importance of making some changes now, and also for getting a (intro-level) handle on investing. Advice, anyone?

I recommend Start Late, Finish Rich by David Bach. I haven’t read it, but I’ve read his other books, Smart Women Finish Rich, Smart Couples Finish Rich, and The Automatic Millionaire. They’re all very useful, common sense guides to financial planning.

Also The Only Investment Guide You’ll Ever Need is actually a very good investment guide.

Thanks for the rec. I wonder about this line from one of the Amazon reviews, though.

Guess I’ll go to the bookstore and have a look for myself. Any others?
