Recommend educational sources on "Web analytics and Web marketing strategies"?

[Mods, I wasn’t sure if this belonged here or in Cafe Society; please feel free to move.]

A week from today, I have an interview for a job that I really, really want. They’re considering me even though I lack one “skillset” listed in the job requirements: “Knowledge of Web analytics and Web marketing strategies.”

I match all the other requirements and come recommended to them by someone we all respect highly, as well as being one of the few candidates who wouldn’t have to relocate, and I get the sense I’d fit in well with their office culture etc. It’s not mostly a marketing job, but it does have this one markety aspect to it.

In talking to the person who would be my boss, in the pre-interview stage, I mentioned that I wasn’t sure about that part, and she made it sound like no big deal. However, next Thursday I’ll be interviewing with not just this nice person but also with a group of her colleagues, who apparently asked for the “Knowledge of Web” stuff requirement in the first place.

So I’d like to give myself a crash course in Web analytics and marketing strategies. The sites they’d want me to promote are aimed at reading teachers and school administrators, so I’m not looking for early-adopter whizbangery, if you know what I mean. Looking at the sites they have in place that I’d be responsible for maintaining and improving, I see a lot there to improve in terms of usability and interface, things I know a little bit about, so I think what I really need to know more about is stuff like keyword optimization, user stats tracking, and whatever else the kids are into these days. They seemed mildly excited to hear that I use Facebook (!!) so I gather the kind of “marketing strategies” they’ll want to hear about include social networking sites as used to promote commercial websites.

Can anyone recommend sites or even not-too-outdated books on these subjects for me to read – or to avoid?

I would start by giving Search Engine Watch (Dot) Com a go over

Thank you, Markxxx, that’s just the thing.
