Recommend iPhone apps for basic office use please

I just got an iPhone. I do these things now on Outlook and with Microsoft Word and Excel, and I am looking for similar features:

  1. Calendaring: Keeping basic appointments and tasks with reminder flexibility. The default iPhone calendaring app seems ok but the recurring reminder for “monthly” does not allow me to specify detail such as “monthly on a specific date of each month” vs. “monthly on the third Tuesday of each month.” The only option is “monthly”

  2. Word processing: Simple Word documents mostly. Maybe letters with letterhead containing a simple graphic. I use goPDF to convert to PDF.

  3. Spreadsheet: Again simple use, nothing fancy. Tables, sums of rows and columns, very simple formulas.

Thanks!

Calendar: I use Pocket Informant but it’s a bit pricey. You might want to look at Calvetica, which has a clean interface and lots of features. I know that Pocket Informant definitely handles this kind of scheduling. When setting up an appointment to repeat, there is a little tutorial linked right there that shows you how to create special repeats.

Word processing/spreadsheet - the usual recommendations I’ve seen are for Documents to Go and Quickoffice. Really, what I need is something like this which will show tracked changes in Word documents, and I’ve yet to find one (or to figure out how to activate the feature in some app I do have).

Got pocket informant based upon your post. It looks pretty powerful. Thanks.

Also got quickoffice and have yet to try it.

Have you tried a physical keyboard?

I use the built in Calendar app synced with Outlook. I can’t set up monthly appointments the way you want IN the app, but I can in Outlook, and they’ll carry over to the device.

I use Office2 (Office squared). This has simple word processing and spreadsheets, which can sync with Google Docs, or export as MS files.

I find an external keyboard extremely useful at times. I have an iConnect folding Bluetooth keyboard, mostly for writing with some simple formatting.

Did you delete the default iPhone calendar after getting PI?

I use the iPad default calendar, synced with a gmail account. Pretty much fits the bill of setting appointments!

I never delete default apps; I guess I’m worried I’ll break something. I just stick them in an “Unused” group at the end of my apps.

My alerts sound effect was coming from the default calendar instead of PI. I turned off the alert sounds in the default app.

You couldn’t delete them anyway, so no worries there.
