Recommend me a clear fizzy drink

A recent flare-up of migraines has me turning once again to something bubbly and clear to soothe the tummy.

For years Ginger Ale and Sprite have been my favorites, but it occurred to me that there might be other drinks on the market, as good or better than my old standards.

Do you have a favorite? Something tried and true, or something I’ve 'gotta try once !!11" ? Something exotic?

Thanks in advance ~

You really can’t beat plain (or lemon-flavored) seltzer water for pure refreshment. The lack of sweetness makes it bracing and delicious. I love it!

My other favorite clear fizzy drink is champagne.

How “clear” are we talking here? Ginger beer clear or Tom Cruise clear? If the former, then I recommend Bundaberg Ginger beer, Reed’s Extra Ginger beer, and AJ Stephan’s Ginger beer.

I like plain old seltzer water. Some people tell me there’s sodium in it, which really confuses me because all of the seltzer I have ever seen only contains water, natural flavoring, and carbonation. And I look. Perhaps it’s a regional thing?

Club soda has sodium in it, so I don’t drink it, but I drink seltzer water by the case.

Here it says seltzer water doesn’t in fact have any sodium in it.

ETA: I see ** Left Hand of Dorkness** beat me to it while I was off looking for the link. They also sell several other flavors here, though I only like the lemon or lime.

While it won’t help settle your stomach, I really like Squirt… which is a grapefruit soda.

Champagne?

7Up – Sprite is just a second rate imitation of the real real thing.

It’s the ginger in ginger ale that’s really supposed to help settle the stomach. But I also really like Hansen’s Natural Soda. You can find them at most natural foods stores and bigger grocery stores. They’re so good I often have a diet version for dessert and am totally satisfied.

I’m voting for selzer. But you can get all kinds of things other than plain or lemon. Raseberry for example. Good stuff.

Ginger ale is also pretty kwel.

Half seltzer and half cranberry juice is perfect for summer.

Fresca has several flavors nowadays, all clear, and all really good.

I’m a Sierra Mist gal, myself. It’s got slightly more flavor and slightly less fizz, which I prefer.

I second Hansen’s but also submit Italian soda. Simply club soda with a little flavoring: grenadine, Rose’s lime juice, or any of a number of syrups offered by various makers (I use Torani for my Italian soda - a kiwi/strawberry mix is my favorite). Top with a little half and half. I’ve also seen Sprite used for the base on occasion.

Feel better soon, NinetyWt!

I vote for a tall thin glass of tonic water and lime. I guess you could go with diet tonic water to avoid calories but I think it tastes vile.

While not clear you may also consider a mixture of your favorite fruit juice and carbonated water. My wife goes for 2/3’s cranberry juice and 1/3 water. Cool and fizzy and the goodness of fruit juice without all the sugar.

Yum … that Hansen’s Key Lime Soda looks delish … if you can find it in Austin, perhaps I can find it in Jackson as well.

I didn’t realize seltzer came in flavors nowadays. Sounds like a Good Thing[sup]TM[/sup]. I shall have to try it.

I like gin-and-tonics, but also just plain tonic for times when I don’t want alcohol, with plenty of squeezes of lime. I use a whole lime for one drink, either with or without the gin.

Word of warning though, the quinine is a diuretic, so you might not want to have it too soon before bedtime, or you will likely have to get up several times during the night.

I’d keep away from the Tom Cruise stuff. Last person who drank it was Carrot Top.

I don’t know how it might do for a stomachache, but Wal-Mart sells this drink mix called Fulfill (something like $2 for 3 gallons). I like the kiwi strawberry. I normally just mix it with water but I tried it once with club soda and it was pretty good, though it didn’t stay carbonated all that long.

Queen Bruin, pardon, I seem to have forgotten my manners! :o Thanks for the well wishes. I’m doing much better today thanx. I recently went on a blood pressure reducing medicine, so I’m half wondering if these headaches are related to the recent drop in BP.

Thanks to everyone else too.

No worries - I know how the post-migraine thing goes. Glad you’re feeling better!
