Recommend me a domain registrar

The registrations for both of the Internet domain names I own are expiring soon. I’d like to renew them, and I’m open to suggestions for a Domain Name Registrar.

I’d rather not use Network Solutions again. They’ve been a minor hassle to deal with - even at my low level of purchases. Also, I can’t forgive them for their attempted “Internet land grab” several years ago. They had all failed DNS queries go to a web site of theirs, where they cheerfully offered to sell you azamon.com (or whatever you mis-typed). Besides being greedy as all get out, it messed up the non-Web parts of the Internet for days. (Yes, the Internet is more than just the Web. You’d think the original domain name registrar would understand this. But noooo!)

That was all after they had a sale and I renewed one domain for a buncha years for what was, at the time, a cheap rate.

My other domain is with GoDaddy. I have not had any problems with them myself, but I know they are not without controversy. For example, see this thread in [thread=381758]GQ July 2006[/thread]. Also, friends of mine have domains with GoDaddy, and my emails to said friends usually bounce. Not always, just usually. Somehow my domain gets marked as a spammer, then unmarked, then marked again.

I found two other threads on domain name registrars: [thread=403800]IMHO January 2007[/thread] doesn’t have broad recommendations, and [thread=275230]GQ September 2004[/thread] is, well, old.

Throw your suggestions at me, please! Thanks in advance!

Do you already have webhosting? Or would you consider changing that as well?

If you would be willing to change, Tigertech has hosting for good prices and the domain name renewal is included in the price.

I’ve got a domain parked at the moment as insurance against someone that might want to mess with our existing site, and I used DreamHost as they’re going to be our most likely hosting provider.

Ten bucks a year for our .org name, and the registry info is private (rather than having my name, address and phone available to every schmo who knows how to spell WHOIS), and the domain is locked against transfer so nobody can try to steal it.

I’ve had some other dealings with them before, and they’ve always given understandable, accurate and prompt answers.

I use www.godaddy.com do far I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I’d recommend godaddy for rock-bottom prices and no frills, or www.dotster.com for good service and services and a fair price.
