Recommend me a graphics tablet

I don’t do a heck of a lot of photo editing, and most of what I do is fairly light-duty retouching kinds of things. But I do get frustrated because I mouse right-handed but I write left-handed, and achieving precision with the mouse in my otherwise non-dominant hand is difficult.

So I’m thinking about getting a graphics tablet. Wacom seems to be the leader in the industry (or the leader in self-promotion). Their cheapie $99 Bamboo Fun kinda looks like it would be adequate for my needs. The next step up would be the Intuos3, which is about $350.

It it clearly a higher end machine in capability, but I don’t want to be buying a Ferrari when a Ford will serve my purposes just fine.

Any opinions?

The Bamboo is probably all you need.

I used to have a Graphire, but someone gave me an Intuos as a gift, so I now happily use that.

I don’t know about the Bamboo, but the Graphire came in one size - 4x5" - and is suited best for use with regular proportioned monitors. To use it with my widescreen monitor, I had to adjust the scaling - all of the tablet width was available, but I had about a half inch of dead space at top and bottom.

The Intuos does widescreen without losing much, if any, active space, and there are different sizes of them. The buttons on the tablet’s side(s) are programmable so you can get at functions faster - program one for Magnifier and another for Eyedropper, etc. The Graphire didn’t have these, but it looks like the Bamboo does.
