Any Luna fans out there? I recently saw “Tell Me Do You Miss Me,” and now I’m jonesing for some Luna. Anyone have any suggestions for what to try first? Many thanks.
I really liked Lunapark. “Slash Your Tires” is a cool song, because the lyrics are so hostile and threatening, but Dean Wareham delivers them in a kind of flat tone of voice. “Slide” is good, too.
Bewitched is pretty good. “This Time Around” has the nifty vibes on it. I rather enjoyed it when a snippet of “California (All The Way)” was used in a CK One commercial.
The Days of Our Nights is wretched, but the cover of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” would definitely be worthy of downloading.
“The days of our nights” was easily their strongest record, both sonically and in the songwriting department. It’s qutie obvious that much more effort went into the crafting of that record, from the actual writing to the production and instrumentation, than the bulk of their catalogue. Whereas most of their previous albums (even second-best “Penthouse”) have a few great nuggets (“Sideshow by the seashore,” “Moon Palace,” “California all the way,” “Bewitched,” “Chinatown,” “Tiger Lily”, etc.), “The days…” plays out like another band’s greatest hits collection.
I can’t speak for any of their albums, but I’ll second Snooooopy’s comment on “Sweet Child o’ Mine”. And “IHOP” kicks tushy like nobody’s business - it’s a “turn the volume up to 11 and drive like no one else is on the road” song for me.
Bad puns and good guitar. Mmmmm.
