Recommend me a movie!

It’s Friday night, and myself and two of my friends want to see a movie. Sadly, we can’t seem to think of one we all want to see. The local theaters don’t seem to have anything that sparks our interest. At least two of us are in the mood for something good with some satisfying action or humor (or both). We all want to see something none of us have seen before.

Any movie that can currently be rented, purchased, or seen at the theater is fair game. Lay it on me, Aggregate Dope Culture Hive!

Well, I’d like to see the new version of Sleuth but I don’t think that scores very high on the action or humor scales. The original is excellent, but it’s very much a puzzle movie.

I’m trying to think of humorous action movies that might have slipped under your radar. How about Mystery Men or Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins?

Haven’t seen either. I’m not familiar with Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. What’s the premise?

A New York police officer (Fred Ward) is recruited to join a super-secret government department and, under the careful training of a Korean martial-arts master (Joel Grey), investigate a corrupt weapons manufacturer. Released in 1985. With Wilford Brimley and Kate Mulgrew.

The Flim-Flam Man: Con man (George C. Scott) tutors a young Army deserter (Michael Sarrazin) in the subtle art of capitalizing on the greed of his fellow man as the unlikely pair go on some genuinely hilarious adventures across the Kentucky countryside.

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean: Paul Newman stars in this farcical Western as the one-man law west of the Pecos. If this story ain’t true… it shoulda been.

Seven Chances: Buster Keaton as a fellow who will inherit a fortune if he marries by that evening.

Some Like It Hot: Two musicians (Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) go on the lam from the Mob by hiding out in drag in an all-female band, fronted by singer Marilyn Monroe.

Out of Sight with George Clooney and Angelina Jolie

What did you end up watching?

I think my description of Remo Williams scared him away from movies entirely.

We had to make a decision before this thread had much information in it.

Dodgeball and Free Enterprise. I’ve seen both before, but one of my friends hadn’t, and we decided to show him.

I’ll remember the films mentioned here the next time I face a similar situation (shouldn’t be long). Thanks, Dopers!

For the record, I’ve seen Some Like it Hot and I did enjoy it.
