A gift giving occasion is coming up, for someone whose favorite PC game is “Pandora’s Box”. Since there don’t appear to be any sequels, can anyone recommend any similarly engrossing puzzle-type games?
It’s a puzzle-adventure game, and it’s perhaps the greatest PC game ever, and perhaps the best argument for PC games as art - Grim Fandango.
I’ll second Gadfly’s suggestion, but before I can make one of my own, tell me what Pandora’s Box is; I’ve probably heard of it (I’ve heard of every PC game EVER, I just don’t remember some), but it’s not ringing a bell…
It’s a straight puzzle game, advertised as a If You Like Tetris, You’ll Love Pandora’s Box – a dozen or so different kinds of puzzles, involving moving pieces around to make pictures. One cool aspect is that the puzzles are grouped around cities, and each picture/puzzle is either a landmark, fine art or folk art representative of that city. So you get a little dose of travelog and art history with your game.
I haven’t played Pandora’s Box, but for puzzle games I find Bejeweled and Alchemy addictive.
